RCS waiting for activation issue on iPhone and Xfinity Mobile

I'm having issues sending RCS messages to android customers from my iPhone 14 Pro Max.  Since the carrier is involved with RCS messaging on iPhone this may be some sort of carrier bug or maybe something in combination with a recent iOS update.

I noticed on the RCS Messaging tab in the Messages settings on my iPhone, it's basically stuck on "Waiting for Activation..."    Seems like my phone can't seem to connect with the RCS system.

Thanks for reaching out and providing those details @ap_111111. I can definitely understand how frustrating that is, especially when it prevents you from messaging Android users.

A few quick questions:

  • When did you first notice the issue?
  • Did this start after a recent iOS update, device change, eSIM change, or line activation?
  • Are you able to send and receive regular SMS and iMessages without issue?

For troubleshooting purposes, please also try:

  • Turning RCS Messaging off, restarting the iPhone, and turning it back on.
  • Verifying that iOS is fully up to date.
  • Confirming that both cellular data and WiFi are working properly.

Just as a follow up to this.:

  • I ended up using the Xfinity Assistant chat support that sent me to an Xfinity Mobile Live agent.
  • The first agent had me reboot, Reset Network settings, disabled/enabled RCS messaging, disabled/enabled iMessage, deleted and reinstalled esim.
  • Those troubleshooting steps might work for some people, but didn't work for me as agent had to escalate with a ticket as RCS still said "Waiting for Activation"
  • Make sure to get a ticket number as you might have to follow up.
  • No messages for a few days and no sign of it being fixed
  • I followed up today and finally found an agent to follow up on the ticket. That agent had someone technical follow up live while she was with me in the chat.
  • So there was some technical issue where they "enabled the RCS feature on the network and aligned it with the device".  RCS was blocked???
  • Then they had me Reset Network settings and the phone automatically rebooted.
  • After it rebooted on its's own everything worked instantly.  All the missing RCS messages flooded in at once and there was no more activation message for RCS.

@ap_111111 I am glad to hear that everything is working correctly and that the Xfinity mobile agent was able to help you! Was there anything else that you needed assistance with?
