my Xfinity cable boxes get interference from my Xfinity cable modem

I discovered soon after getting Xfinity service that I see intermittent blocky interference on cable TV channels when my cable modem is connected.  Unplugging the cable modem fixes the problem, but it's very annoying to have to cut off my internet service in order to enjoy my cable TV service.  I've tried a number of things:

  • I removed all connections from the splitter except for one set top box and the cable modem.  Didn't help.
  • I checked the Comcast Labs signal quality feature on the set top box.  The reported signal strength is green / good.
  • I installed a higher quality splitter with better isolation levels.  The interference continued.
  • I tried installing my own (Xfinity-approved) cable modem.  The interference continued.

The STBs are an Xfinity XG1-P (Pace PX013ANM) and an Xfinity XG2v2-P (Pace PX022ANM).  Both of them show the interference.  The cable modems I've tried are an Xfinity XB6-T and a Hitron CODA56.

I saw a reference online to a "high split filter" that can be installed ahead of the STB to prevent interference problems like mine, but I have no idea how I would get such a filter.  Anybody have a suggestion?
