What state is sales tax based on?

My Xfinity Mobile account’s service address is in one state, but I’m doing a device upgrade (36-month installment/financing) while physically in another state. Is the sales tax on the device calculated based on my account’s registered service address, or based on where I’m physically located/where the transaction is processed?

Xfinity Mobile sales tax is based on your designated account service address, which serves as your primary place of use.
Tax Calculation Details
  • Primary Place of Use: Your stated service address determines the state, county, city, and special district taxes applied to your monthly plan and device charges.
  • Per-Line Basis: Taxes and government surcharges are assessed for each line on your account.
  • Updates: If you use your device at a different location or move, you must update your address via Xfinity Support to ensure accurate tax calculations.

@user_2at0f1 This is a great question! If you purchase a device or accessory in a Retail Store and take them with you, taxes are based on the location of the Retail Store. However, if your device is being shipped to you, taxes are based on your shipping address, not the location of the Retail Store. Please let us know if you have more questions we are here to help!
