2 replacement boxes

Xfinity contacted me, saying they need to replace my 2 cable boxes. But when they arrived, both boxes are identical and are very small. They are the same size as the secondary box we have now.
Neither new box indicates it’s a primary, and our current primary box is about 10x larger than these new ones.

Shouldn’t the primary box be larger? Or does this not matter anymore? If I disconnect the old primary box, will the new tiny box still have DVR capability?

It depends on the boxes you got.  If one is an Xi6, it can function as the primary as long as you are using Xfinity internet.  It can record in the cloud for DVR functions.

Did they say why you needed new boxes?

The xfinity emails just said “it’s time to upgrade your equipment”, and we’ve had these boxes for several years.

Neither new box says Xi6, they both say X1. That’s why I’m wondering if these will work for us. And yes, we use their Wi-Fi as well.

I feel like I need to take these new boxes to one of their retail stores to speak with a human about exchanging one of them.
I asked the question here in case I could avoid doing that, but it sounds like what they sent will not work.
