30 second skip on remote

The page up/page down buttons were programmed for 30 second skip/15 second rewind on my remote when watching live TV. In the last week, those buttons are operating differently.  The page up now jumps around 10 - 15 seconds  forward and the page down rewinds about 30 seconds. Why the change? This feature was great for live pausing and catching up to live programming.

Okay, so I'm not losing my mind. I am seeing the same thing on my X15/Xi6 combo.

With the remote set for 30 second skipping, I've measured it as skipping backward 36 seconds, and skipping forward 9 seconds. So not only is the backward skip now 4x as long as the forward skip (instead of being half as long at 15/30), the skip times aren't even in denominators of 30 seconds.

I don't get it. Who wants to skip backwards by such a long interval, and skip forward by such a short one?

(Meanwhile 5 minute skip seems unchanged, for anyone curious)

bar_knee I wouldn't have the exact information as to why the new changes come in, but there are always updates coming through for improvement.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I thought I was doing something wrong.  Not too thrilled about this as it makes pausing live TV and then skipping forward past commercials harder.

Wondering if that was the intent.... 🤨

@Bellatone What troubleshooting steps have you taken from your end? Have you performed a power-cycle to the cable box or a system refresh by chance?

You can review the steps to perform a X1 System refresh through our online article.  To get that accomplished you'll need to:

  1. Press the A button on your remote control, or visit the Help section in Settings. (Saying “System Refresh” into your Voice Remote will take you to step three.)
  2. Highlight the System Refresh tile, and press OK.

Hello @user_lftk45 and thank you for posting your experience here on our Xfinity Community forums.  We appreciate you taking the time to do so and completely understand how a change can feel frustrating when it occurs, especially with a feature you felt was working well for you.

From time to time, updates are made to improve overall performance or introduce new functionality, and that can sometimes affect how certain buttons or features behave. While we don’t have specific details on the reason behind this particular change, your feedback about how it’s impacting your ability to pause and catch up during live programming is incredibly valuable.

We’re sharing insights like this with our product teams so that they can better understand what matters most to customers and how these changes are being experienced day to day. Please keep the feedback coming as it really does help shape future improvements.

✅  Good to go as of 8pm EDT, here in western Massachusetts!!!  At least for now, anyway, and I didn’t need to do “that” type of system refresh.

Brad:  I’m an engineer (like I already typed) so I already knew it wasn’t coming from my end.

peace/love/light,

phil
