4k capable cable box

Purchased new TV with 4k capability but still only shows 1080/60Hz through my current cable box. Is there a 4k capable box and how do I get it. I can't reach a human being in customer service to save my life¡

XG1v4 DVR and Xi6 wireless are the two 4K boxes from Comcast.  Xi6 requires the Xfinity router.

Xi6 requires an Xfinity router if it is the ONLY box on your system.

I have the XG1v4 (as my dvr) and TWO Xi-6's and I do NOT have an xfinity router

Curious.  If you unplug your wired box(es), do the Xi6s still work?

I unplugged the XG1v4, and the Xi6 still worked

I then ALSO unplugged my 1 wired HD box, and the Xi6 still worked

and while the wired boxes were unplugged, I did a restart on a Xi6 - and it cycled and came back on normally.

not sure i want to do any type of system refresh, those are pretty extensive and may cause more issues than it uncovers.

This is getting me to think that:

1) You do NOT need EITHER an xfinity gateway, nor a wired box in order to utilize a Xi6 box.

2) These requirements are a way for the company to get people to rent things from them that are not really necessary. (I, of course, would love to be corrected if I'm wrong by a person with a deeper knowledge than the usually "copy and paste" we seem to get)

one bonus item: My Xi6, while "wireless" is connected to my router via ethernet cord -

Hello westwayneguy88888 Awesome testing and troubleshooting! Thanks for engaging and sharing your results with the community.

To dig into the requirements for the wireless cable boxes further, you would need to have a X1 cable box, or a xfi gateway in order for the wireless cable box to function correctly. There is one area where you do not need either if you upgraded from our Xfinity Flex service. In this case you would not need a X1 cable box or a leased gateway.

There are more specifics to find on the wireless TV boxes here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/wireless-tv-box-faqs

From my own experience If you do not have a X1 cable box already or a leased xfi gateway we would not be able to activate the Xi6 wireless cable box for our Xfinity TV services.

I like to think that once configured. Similar to flex, the Xi6 would be good to go as @BIslander shared that thought, but I have not had the opportunity to test that for myself yet, and I haven't heard any feedback from my peers if it works or not.

@XfinityPaula

yesterday, i unplugged both my wired X1 boxes (1 is 4K, the other HD) and my wireless boxes functioned perfectly - My internet gateway is not rented from you

are you saying the very fact i have a wired X1 box on my account is what kept everything going? -

your statement was abount activating the Xi6 box, maybe if the customer gets both an X1 wired box and a Xi6 wireless box, gets everything activated, and then returns the X1 wired box, what would happen then?

Interesting.  Yes, maybe it's just a way to force people to use their router.   Or maybe it doesn't matter after initial configuration.  Only one way to test that and, as you've indicated, not worth doing yourself.

remember that Xi6 only accessed recording from off the cloud, so there is a smaller size if someone was to go that route.

Thanks for posting this. I tried to order from my TV a week and a half ago and haven't heard anything about it. I'll DM support instead.
