Cable Box Noise ... Why??

Compared to my AppleTV hardware which is silent and tiny, my Xfinity box is huge and constantly making noise from either a fan or the hard drive. Why? I even tried swapping boxes, but the new one did the same thing. Feels like 2010 technology. When is Xfinity going to update their cable boxes so that customers don't have to listen to a whir all night and day?

Thanks for providing us this feedback @user_3rdq9v. When you swapped the box, did you receive the same make and model cable box or a different one?

The box looked the same. I had the previous box for several years. I really noticed the noise when the box was moved from being in a closed cabinet to being on an open shelf. That's when I tried swapping boxes hoping that a newer box wouldn't make constant noise. But it sounded the same so it wasn't failing hardware. Between the size of the box, the noise it makes, and the ridiculous amount of time it takes for the box to reboot, it just seems antiquated and old school.

I'll pass along your feedback about the boxes. If you could provide me the make and model number, I can get started on that.

There doesn't seem to be a make or model number on the box. I've included two pictures that may help you identify it.

Does Xfinity have other boxes that are silent? If so, how do I get one?

Thanks for sending that over. The best way to swap out your box would be at an XFINITY store. Going to a store would allow you to drop off the old box and pick up a new one that isn't the same model you returned. Alternatively, our team can ship out a new box to you. Which option would work best for you?
