Comcast Previews New Multiview Experience on Xfinity X1

Comcast Previews New Multiview Experience on Xfinity X1, Brings Live Football and Baseball Together on the Same Screen

Xfinity has launched an early preview of a new multiview experience on X1, offering sports fans a new way to watch all the excitement of October’s biggest professional sports, football and playoff baseball, together on the same screen.

“Xfinity has always been the best place for live sports, and with new features like Odds Zone and enhanced 4K, it’s only getting better,” said Vito Forlenza, Vice President, Sports Entertainment. Comcast. “And now, with this early preview of multiview on X1, we can show customers a little bit of what’s to come in terms of future sports viewing innovations, all while making it easy for them to keep up with two of October’s most exciting events. We can’t wait to see how they respond and look forward to bringing more multiview experiences to them in the future.”

During the preview, Xfinity X1 customers can watch up to three live events at the same time, supporting two key scenarios:

Football Sunday: Customers can watch Sunday’s locally airing NFL games side-by-side on the same screen – no need to flip between channels to follow both games. Customers with NFL Redzone as part of their TV package will see a third mosaic featuring RedZone’s whip-around coverage alongside their local games, giving them a simple way to follow all the action happening across the league both locally and nationally.

Primetime Football & Playoff Baseball: With MLB baseball playoffs in full swing throughout October, customers won’t need to choose between watching a pivotal inning or the final two minutes. During the preview, they can also enjoy side-by-side coverage of NFL games and playoff baseball within the multiview experience, and never miss a major moment.

X1 customers with eligible devices can launch the multiview preview by saying “multiview” into their voice remote, or by finding it within the comprehensive sports destination on X1. Once in the multiview experience, customers can toggle between channels to switch audio and select any of the games to jump into full screen mode. During the preview, availability of multiview options could vary by market.

Xfinity plans to continue innovating its multiview experience, such as adding the ability to watch up to four live events at the same time, increasing the number of sports available, bringing the feature to more devices, and letting customers build their own multiview experience.

@ajanowitz

This is a great question. At this time the initial phase does not include multi-view customizations. I can share your feedback as this is a great suggestion to have.

Also you can share feedback through our Xfinity App as well.

It would have been nice to watch the hockey game and baseball playoffs tonight in Multiview.

MABirdwatcher Thanks for your comment. What specific issues were you experiencing with the games?

What does Comcast consider an "eligible device"? Also, why is Multiview only available with NFL games?  This would be much more useful on Saturdays when College Football literally has 10 different games being broadcast from noon until midnight!

Thanks for your comment and feedback, user_c3zape. We welcome any recommendations that can help improve our customer experience. I will make sure to pass this feedback along. To answer your device question, customers with a Popular TV package and above, X1, and a compatible device Xi6 and XG1v4 TV boxes can enjoy this feature during select Multiview programming windows.

compatible device Xi6 and XG1v4?

I would like to replace an X1 secondary box with a device that connects via cable not a wireless connection

Is there a cable connected box that supports multiview available now or future release?

countyline Thank you so much for asking about replacement box options. Currently, Multiview is an option only supported on our 4k box that would be limited to the Xi6 box as a secondary box option, which is wireless, and the 4k DVR XG1v4. At this time we do not have any news about any other box besides the 4k DVR XG1v4 with wired connections becoming available. You can have more than one DVR box at an extra cost if needed so you can utilize the hardwired connection with an additional XG1v4.

How many tuners do the new multiview DVR's have and how does multiview affect the number of programs you can record simultaneously?

Watched the NFL Monday night football game and World Series game on Monday with Multiview App works better with 2 events or pictures on one screen.

shobra, Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind sharing some more insight on about your question? Are wanting to know if it costs per person to watch 3 live events at the same time?

It’s neat.  Hoping a fourth stream with customization of the layout will be coming. This could make college football Saturday’s epic.

Is there an easy way to switch back from full-screen view back to Multiview or switch from one game to the other in full-screen view other than restarting Multiview through the voice command?

@user_5f0pj6 That is a fantastic question! At this time the only option to access Multiview is by using the voice remote. You can learn more about Multiview by clicking this link.
