Forced Onto New Plan Just For Trying to Return Cable Boxes
We started using a Roku for streaming the Xfinity television channels, so we no longer needed the cable boxes we were paying $20 a month for. We went to return the cable boxes and were told (after they took the boxes) that we would have to call and get a new plan for some reason, just to remove the cable box charges from our bill. My husband called and the person completely misunderstood what he was asking to do and she cancelled the whole television plan. So the next day my husband went to the store to meet with someone in person, explained what happened, and was told that our plan was "no longer available" and we were put on a new plan that is the same cost as the old plan WITH the cost of the rented cable boxes! We were trying to save $20 a month and instead got put on some new plan and will save nothing. This was very underhanded and was due to the incompetence of the person we first spoke to both at the store when we dropped off the boxes and when we called. I called this morning and was told there was nothing they could do and they gave us a $20 one-time credit on the bill. This is not a solution to what we were trying to accomplish.

This very same thing happened to me yesterday! I had called a few weeks ago due to service outage and after talking to the representative they had suggested that if I had a fire stick and/or smart TVs, I could return the boxes and save myself $35/month. I have been advised this a few times by various calls with them, so after being a slave to the boxes for years, I undid all my TV setups, purchased fire sticks and disconnected the boxes. After going to your store yesterday - which by the way, real nice touch (sarcastic) having someone that can take your equipment instantly without a receipt or making you wait 45 minutes for one. Anyway, I'm glad I decided to wait because it was then that I was told that in order to take the 2 additional boxes back I had to sign up for a brand new plan in which I would pay $20 more per month. So if pay more for less equipment.
To make things even more interesting I have been on the phone with Comcast for over an hour today and they said they could take the two boxes off no problem. They then said they needed my approval to make "account changes". I'm glad I hesitated and read the fine changes. They revised twice, both iterations didn't match my original plane. Here's a fun fact, I specifically asked the rep on the phone (Vince) if this was the same exact plan I currently have with 2 less boxes and he said "it is exactly the same nothing else changed". That was a bold faced lie. Not only did it change twice, he kept adding things I never had before nor wanted. Then said it was the same plan "unchanged". When I asked "so if I go to an Xfinity store they will say it's a legacy plan?" And he said "oh no it's the new plan" so I said "so you lied" and he said "technically I did not lie".....that's a lie in the English language. Comcast, I'm not sure what is going on here but you guys are eventually going to get sued for all the fast ones your people try to pull on people and I cannot wait for that day. I love that I commented on this post about a terrible experience I had with Xfinity trying to trick me into a new plan and lying flat out and Xfinity decided to delete the entire thread...good thing I took screenshots beforehand. I will be filing a complaint with the CFPB and noting that as well
