help with remote XR15

I have tried every possible code and every possible solution, but I am unable to have my XR15 remote adjust the volume on a recently-added Amazon Fire soundbar.  The Soundbar is connected to the HDMI ARC output, the Xfinity Cable is connected to HDMI 2.   The XFinity remote does channel change and other functions, but will not turn the TV on and off and cannot adjust the volume or mute.   Meanwhile, the Amazon Fire TV's remote controls on/off for the TV and adjusts volume on the soundbar.  So I can get everything accomplished with two remotes, but of course it will be helpful if the X15 could control the on/off and volume.   THanks very much

@user_395c22,

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out and for the detailed explanation. That really helps, and I understand how frustrating it is to need two remotes when everything should work together. With the XR15 remote, volume and power control rely on either IR codes or HDMI‑CEC. Since your Amazon Fire soundbar is connected via HDMI ARC, the XR15 typically needs to control the TV, and then the TV passes volume control to the soundbar through ARC/CEC.  Unfortunately, the XR15 cannot directly some third‑party soundbars (including Amazon Fire soundbars) on its own. A few things worth double‑checking:

  1. Make sure HDMI‑CEC is enabled on the TV (this may be called CEC, Anynet+, SimpLink, Bravia Sync, etc., depending on the brand).
  2. Try re‑programming the XR15 for the TV manufacturer only (not the soundbar) following the steps in this link here.
  3. After programming, power‑cycle the TV, soundbar, and cable box to force a fresh CEC handshake.

If the Fire TV remote is able to control TV power and soundbar volume, that confirms CEC is working. The workaround you’re using (two remotes) is a reliable setup in this configuration, but enabling CEC and re‑pairing the XR15 to the TV gives you the best chance of consolidating controls. If you’d like, let me know the TV make/model and I can tailor the steps more specifically.

@XfinityGabriel    I thought I replied before, but perhaps not.  The TV is INSNGNIA NS-55F501NA26.   The TV's input in HDMI-2 is from the xfinity cable box, the input on HDMI-1 is from the Fire soundbar.  Right now the Fire/Insignia remote powers the TV on/off and adjusts the volume and mutes; the xfinity remote changes channels, pauses and rewinds the TV, and can be used to locate premium channels.  I would love it if either one of the remotes (or another one) could be used for all these various functions.   I've tried pairing the XR15 remote to the TV but it will not adjust the volume or turn the TV off and on.  Thank you very much.

Hello @user_395c22, Thank you for providing the TV brand. I appreciate that. I understand how frustrating it can be when the remote won’t control the TV volume or power as expected. At this point, the next step would be to reset the XR15 remote and then re‑pair it with the TV. This often resolves issues with volume control and powering the TV on and off. I’ve attached an article here that walks you through both the remote reset and pairing steps in detail. When you’re ready, please try those steps and let us know how it goes.

@XfinityMarshante Thank you for that, but I can't even pair the x15 to handle the volume up/down and power.  Right now the x15 remote does channel change, rewind, all that stuff, but not volume or power.  The cable box is connected to HDMI 2, the soundbar is connected to HDMI 1 ARC.  What I'm going to try is to connect the cable box to HDMI 1 and the sound bar via an optical audio cable, which will come tomorrow.  Perhaps that will solve at least part of the problem?

Thank you

@user_395c22, sorry to hear that resetting and re-pairing the remote didn’t work as expected. Once the optical audio cable arrives, and you’re able to complete the setup, please let us know how it goes. We’re happy to assist further if needed.

HDMI-CEC is not involved in powering the TV on/ off with the X15 remote.  That's the basic pairing function where the remote sends IR commands to the TV.  You need to start there.
