Main menu no longer has the guide option.

The main menu no longer has an option for “Guide”. Instead it now has “Sports” where “Guide” used to be. Was this intentional? If so why? Not all of us care about easy access to sports but we all do use the guide.

I am also having this same problem. I do not watch sports but I often use the Guide option. I contacted Xfinity but received no help. This is very frustrating.

user_xal13b Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us here on our Xfinity Forums. I can understand the frustration if you are used to accessing the guide via the Xfinity Menu. This was a recent change, the remote would have a guide button on it to open the guide. Have you attempted to utilize that button?

@XfinityBillie Please let me know how to delete that darn 'sports"....I never watch, hate the word sports and just want guide.  Mostly Apps should be first in any event since that's what I use the most.

@XfinityNatalie sorry but this doesn't fix the issue.

Xfinity made a change so that when we click the xfinity button on the remote, we're stuck with the following:  Sports, Saved, On Demand, Search, Apps.

For those of us with no interest in sports, it seems like a waste of a change.  Going in and changing the guide view lets us choose only what we see when we actually hit the guide button. I don't want to see sports as a choice.  Xfinity has no idea of who it's customer base is if we are all force to have this menu option.

Hello @user_n9qvqg. Thank you for reaching out on our Community Forum. I know how frustrating it is when your equipment is not working properly. If your guide button is not working on the remote you may need your remote replaced.

Please send us a direct message with your full name and address so that we can assist you further.

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon or  https://forums.xfinity.com/direct-messaging

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

- As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

- An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it.

Sorry @oliveparty it was an intentional change, you would still have quick access to the guide by using the guide button on your remote.

Using the Guide button on the remote rather than the Xfinity button does not resolve the issue for those of us who want to record programs.  Pressing the Guide button directs the TV to the channels, but then when you press the Record button, one can record only the program as scheduled without the previously available options (to extend the recording, etc.).  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE revert to include the Guide option on the main Xfinity menu.

that's not true, you highlight the show in the grid, then press the info button, then record, then the options show up

I agree this is an absolutely ridiculous change on Xfinity's part. EVERYONE uses the guide, but not everyone watches Sports (like me). Furthermore, I resent having to pay a sports surcharge when I never watch a single sports channel. Make the people who actually watch the sports pay more for it.

Why would you intentionally put Sports on their when half of your subscribers are women who don't watch sports.  You would be better off having "Movies" or "Netflix" --anything but Sports!

@user_f57z16 I so agree with all you said -- must be men making these decisions.  Probably men who are wearing jerseys of their favorite team.  Stupid decision by Comcast.  And insult to those of us who hate sports or don't watch them.

It  WAS INTENTIONAL! Due to an update Spent 2 hrs 15 min last night trying to figure it out. Spent about an hour interest today ed that first level deck and second level tech. Was kind and calm but furious and went to know. Have asked them for a discount for this month's bill because they gave no warning and I spent a good part of my time trying to figure it out. First level tech didn't know about it either and tried everything to fix  To both 1st and 2nd level techs I recommended two options to them: #1 Xfinity should provide a customizable option for the menu choices,

or #2 Xfinity should provide an option out button for the sports label so the guide comes back. [Edited: "Solicitation"]

Thank you for your feedback about this experience, user_1j942q. We always want things to be simple and easy for you and apologize it took time to find out what had happened. I understand that can be frustrating to go through. @westwayneguy88888 is correct that you can still use the Guide button on the Xfinity remote to view all the Live TV channel guide.

Ok, so it was intentional. Again, it makes absolutely no sense. As we said EVERYONE uses the guide, but not everyone watches sports. Why would they make that part of the main Xfinity menu?

Unacceptable move., I have an elderly parent that has it engrained in her head to use the guide option in the menu. She has hard time navigating the remote and cannot see the guide button on remote. [Edited: "Inflammatory"]

Same! This is absolutely ridiculous. I do not watch sports and now you have it as the FIRST OPTION!!!! This screen should be customizable for the amount of money I pay a month for service.

your 1st option is to use the guide button on the remote

@westwayneguy88888 Thanks for your response, but just to clarify—I was specifically referring to the first option that appears within the guide menu itself, not the first overall option or how to access the guide. I totally understand how to use the guide button; my point was more about how the content is prioritized once you’re in there. I really wish there were an option to customize that layout, especially considering the subscription cost.

I use the Guide button on the Xfinity remote to view Movies Listings. I used Guide from the xfinity menu to view All Channels TV Listings. There is already a C-(round) button on the remote to open the Sports Zone app which only obscures the right side of my screen instead of propagating the full screen like your new Sports option on the xfinity menu. Please consider undoing this deliberate poorly introduced "update."

I am right there with you.  They should allow us to choose if we want to see sports on the toolbar or not.   It's just another example of not having people who are trained in Human Computer Intractions and not having a good use case for changing features.  Not everyone who watches TV is a sports fan, and having that there is a waste of valuable real estate.

Which set top boxes and remotes got this change?  I have two XG1v4s with XR15 remotes along with two little boxes with XR15 and XR11 remotes and they all still have Guide on the Xfinity menu.

I don't like the Sports button on the menu either.  The last time I watched sports was when Vince Lombardi was still coach of the Packers.  I finally found the Guide button on the remote but when I pressed it, half of the screen was filled with info about a selected channel.  I liked the original layout where I could see several lines of channels and needing to press the Info button to get the record preferences is a nuance. I like the idea of being able to select which items are on the menu.

This is a stupid change.  Revert.  I have used the Xfinity button to choose from guide or other things for over twenty years.  Why?! Stop the nonsense changes.

@nelliebub use the guide button on the remote

I find that to be the quickest way to get to the guide.

They have been a customer for twenty years they know about the guide button on the remote. A lot of people get to the guide the same way.

Just wanted to save you from contributing to anyone else with that answer ;)

@ingrams4 thank you for reaching out - many people are not aware of being able to access the channel guide without needing to enter the Xfinity menu.

Not everyone reads every comment on here. I was simply replying back to people because they would get a notification of the response.

It is in no way my intention to "spam the board, or spam this thread", just trying to answer questions people have.

I appreciate the feedback and hope you have found a suitable workaround for your situation, whatever that may be.

I just spent the last 45 min going through every possible settings option to make it go back to saying Guide instead of Sports. Almost all we watch is sports but with that said I still hate this change and am very annoyed xfinity decided to abruptly change the most utilized part of the user experience to their stupid sports content suggestions like if youre gonna switch the guide with sports and force it upon every one of your customers at least suggest worthwhile content.. my heart goes out to all of you who don’t watch sports ughhhh

This is ridiculous. Sounds like the only fix is to use the Xfinity remote and hit the guide button?? I don’t even use the Xfinity remote. I use the Savant app to control everything in my house. My cable box is in my mechanical room in the garage and hard lined two floors up to the living room. Using the Xfinity remote is not an option. But switching to YouTube TV is and that is what I will do. I’ve been considering this for quite a while and you have made the decision for me. You suck Xfinity. Really stupid move!

@user_hlnbsf  Thanks for adding to the post. If you have an X1 box, the best way to control it is with the Xfinity Voice Remote. Check out the details here https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/get-to-know-voice-remote. You can choose to set up your entertainment how you want, but the Voice Remote works the best. Customers can also choose to not use an X1 box and use the Xfinity Stream app, for all the content in and out of the home.
