Pixelation on ESPN, Comedy Central, HGTv

For several months I’ve been experiencing pixelation on ESPN.  At first is sandy all the time and seemed to get worse during popular sporting events that had likely large numbers of viewers.  Recently it’s getting to be so bad it’s often unwatchable. Now it’s happening on HGTV and Conefy Central as well as several other channels. However the majority of my channels are fine.

This doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue as it’s not impacting the entire lineup nor are any of my apps (Netflix, HBO, Peacock) impacted.

so why would certain channels only have this effect?

Xfinity asked me to post this again as I had originally commented on a post that was 4 months old with the same issue. So why is this still happening to me and others?

user_0wiyqc Hello! Thank you for reaching out. Are you seeing this pixelation issue while watching both Live TV and streaming, or does it seem to be fine on one and not the other? It is very unusual; it's only impacting certain channels. Please send a Direct Message with your full name and address. Here are instructions on how to send a DM in case you need them:

 Click "Sign In" if necessary
  • Click the "Direct Message" icon (upper right corner of this page)

Hey user_0wiyqc,

If you ever get down to the bottom of things regarding the pixelation issues you are dealing with, can you please let me know. Because I've now been dealing with pixelation issues on ESPN, TBS, ESPN2 and several other sports channels, like SNY and BTN since about March 1st now. My mom and I even had a tech come out to our house and he said our signal levels were fine. Yet, the pixelation issues persist. Basically, the only work around seems to be using the Xfinity Stream app. I'm a patient person, but I'd really like to know if the pixelation issues I'm dealing with are ever going to clear up. Because I hate not being able to watch games on my TV right now.

For me, there were 2 things. First, the coax cable needed to be tightened at all junctions (the sllitter, the modem, and the cable box). And 2, the tech replaced my older main box that had the DVR in it with a more modem one now that the DVR is in the cloud. It’s a smaller box and throws off less heat. That box, however, didn’t support 4k so I was able to upgrade the box for free through the TV. So try that route.

Thank you for getting back to me and letting me know what helped to fix the pixelation issues you were dealing with. I really appreciate it.

Pixelation started in December for us on an old box. Changed plans and got a new 4k box and same pixelation. It was intermittent at times and continuous others.

Tech came out a few weeks ago and signal and everything was great to our house (which I knew, cause I'd checked the ranges on the modem and TV box secret menus).

He switched us to IPTV with a new box and no more issues. Well, the box has quirks waking up and using the C-menu, but there are less than 5 second workarounds so I'm ok with those tiny annoyances.

If you haven't, I'd just switch from old TV cable to IPTV and get a new box and see if that works, especially if you Internet is fine and it's only TV issues on the old TV signals. I think this is probably where they're headed in the future anyway.
