SD channels now in windowbox format
As of last week, any SD channel I try to watch is now shown in a windowbox format with black bars all around the picture. Kind of like having a postage stamp for an image. Until last week the SD channels were zoomed to fill vertically, which kept the correct aspect ratio, but filled the screen better. The zoom function in the X-1 box only stretches it horizontally, so the image aspect ratio is stretched, not correct. This is also now the way SD channels show up when using the Xfinity Stream app on my Roku TV or my laptop. Can somebody at Xfinity fix this and return it to the previous formatting?
Thanks.

Is anyone else seeing this? Went back to all black bars today. Somebody is messing with something.

Am I the ONLY person in the North Georgia area to see this behavior on the SD channels? People please respond if you are also seeing this.
Thanks!

Yeah seeing this in New Jersey as well. I watch H&I a lot and this is highly frustrating. There is no aspect ratio override setting in the xfinity stream app.

Same issue here in Indianapolis, IN. They did some kind of update on 01/28/2025 that caused this issue. Seems to only happen on Sub channels like MeTV through wireless box and phone only. DVR is still ok. No fix after hours of painstaking communications and a tech visit.

Xfinity wants me to mark one of the replies as a solution, but the issue has not been resolved. Anybody have a working fix for this?

I would hate to say it, but it may just be this way from now on. I don’t think Comcast really cares about SD channels. I don’t even understand why they offer SD versions of the HD channels anymore, since almost everyone has an HDTV now. And even if you don’t, modern cable boxes are capable of converting them. Maybe some people still have SD-only boxes, I don’t know. But who is there to address this to? I actually remember when I was on Verizon FiOS, they did something very similar, and it’s been that way ever since. They don’t care.
