Set Top Box - Volume Issue?

I've got an Xfinity XG1-P set top box, and two other digital converters in the house.  The XG1-P connects to our main TV, a Samsung TV.  The  Xfinity remote control is used to operate the Samsung.  The other digital boxes are connected to a Westinghouse TV, and a Vizio TV.  These TVs also use the same model Xfinity remote control to operate the TVs. All this was installed about two years ago, and all was well, until about a month ago.

The problem is with the volume.  On the Samsung TV, sometimes I can't move the volume up or down.  Say I've got it set at 50, and I want to raise it to 55.  The volume won't move up or down.  I have to turn the TV off, then back on, and when it comes back on, still set at 50, it's twice as loud as right before I turned it off.  But, I can now operate the volume.  Maybe a few hours later, I want to turn the volume down, but it won't move, so I turn the TV off and back on, and I'm back in control of the  volume for maybe a few hours.  I thought it was the remote, but it has full batteries.  Also, this occurs with the Westinghouse TV.  Weird.

I haven't experienced this on the Vizio TV (yet?)

I'm beginning to wonder if this has something to do with the main set top box, the XG1-P, since two TVs are affected.

Any ideas?

@anon86290 Thanks for posting to the community and sharing your experience. That is weird indeed, and we appreciate you narrowing it down to the two TV's. Is anything in front of the TV that would block the signal by chance on the two sets?

Hi,

Nope, there's nothing blocking the remote signal to the TVs.  I can stand directly in front of the TVs, and same problem.
Each TV uses the identical Xfinity remote, synched to their respective TV.
When this happened again yesterday on the 'main' TV, the Samsung connected to the X1 set top, I tried all three remotes to change volume on the Samsung, but no luck.  I also tried all three remotes on the one TV that doesn't seem to be affected, and they worked fine.  So this isn't a remote issue.  I'm wondering if it's a set top box issue, since it happens on two TVs.  I know the 'main' X1 set top does have some control over the other digital converters...
So, what I always have to do to get the volume to work again, is to turn off the Samsung TV (with the Xfinity remote), and turn it back on.  But something weird also happens when I do this.  If the  volume was set to 50, when I turn the TV off and then on, it's still is set to 50, but now the sound blares like it's at 100.  I have to turn it back down to 30 to make it listenable, but I now have the volume control back.  Eventually, I'll loose control of the volume and I'll have go thorough the same routine.
Go figure.

With the issues with the volume and remote control, could you please attempt to turn off HDMI-CEC to see if that helps the remote gain control of the television? You can review our 'Manage power preferences on X1' where it shows how to view the HDMI Device Control (HDMI-CEC) settings. Please turn off HDMI-CEC and let us know if that helps with the TV remote control issue @anon86290.
