Wired Box - Cloud Access

Let me start by saying I used to develop trading platforms, telecommunication networks and disaster recovery systems for Wall Street. Given my background, I have a fairly decent understanding of technology.

Last month (March 2026), I asked Xfinity to add AppleTV to my account. NOTHING ELSE was to change. After the change was made, my DVR capacity was cut in half. The issue went unresolved for nearly 4 weeks. I spoke to 30+ reps via chat and phone. I wasted more than 20 hours.

Last week, a rep finally suggested I try a wireless box as it would allow me access to the recordings I had on the cloud (and the 300 DVR hours included in my services). That resolved the capacity issue.

I wasn’t thrilled with moving from a wired box to a wireless box as I was concerned with video quality, dependability, lags and buffering. As I expected, I am now experiencing frequent lags in my video playback.

The wireless box I currently have installed is an Xi6-A (model AX061AE1). Is there a wired box that will allow me to access the cloud? Thank you.

Hi there, @slg44 I do apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate you posting your concerns. Yes, you can swap your wireless Xi6-A box for a wired Xfinity X1 box that accesses the cloud for recordings and on-demand content. The XG1v4 is a 4K, wired DVR box that allows cloud access, or you can use the wired XiD-P or XG2v2.

Thanks for the reply Richard. One of the two boxes I returned was an XG1v4 (from my living room) so getting another XG1v4 won’t help. I also returned a smaller DVR box from my bedroom (same issues), but I can’t tell you which type/model. I just spent 45 minutes on chat support and they can’t tell me which box(es) I returned.

Either way, what would lead you to believe that an XiD-P or an XG2v2 would resolve the new issues I described?

Thank you, @slg44 I'm not able to tell you for sure if that would resolve your service issue, that's something a technician can do. You did ask Is there a wired box that will allow you access to the cloud, which would be the boxes that I recommended.

Fair enough. I'm not seeing the XiD-P or the XG2v2 on this page:

Are they older technology? Can you point me to the specs of the XiD-P or the XG2v2 or tell me the difference between these boxes and the XG1v4?

Thank you, @slg44 The Xfinity XG1v4 is a, 4K-capable main DVR box, while the XiD-P and XG2v2 are older, 1080p-only companion boxes (or non-DVR main boxes). The XG1v4 is the ideal choice for a 4K TV, offering 6 tuners for recording and a faster interface.

Looks like I'm back to my original issues. Revert to the XG1v4 and accept that I've lost DVR capacity or keep the Xi6-A and deal with the lags. Thanks for trying Richard.
