xfinity xr11

Hi Xfinity Support - I am trying to program (using the onscreen prompts) my XR11 remote to operate both my LG TV and my Onkyo receiver which is attached via a optical cable to the TV. I am finding that only the last device enters actually works. It appears this has been an issue for quite some time per this string - "Xfinity remote won't pair both TV and receiver."

The "Official Solution," posted five years ago says:

1. Factory Reset your Xfinity remote. Directions can be found here: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/remote-xr2-or-xr5-buttons-do-not-work
2. Manually pair your Xfinity remote with audio receivers first
3. Manually pair your Xfinity remote with your TV second

Is this still your current recommendation?  Thanks!

Hey there, @user_336f8f, thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums regarding your account. We would be happy to help you with your account and pairing your remote. Can you confirm whether the XR11 can currently control your LG TV functions (power/volume) or your Onkyo receiver functions, and which device stops responding after the second pairing is completed?

The XR11 can control the LG TV functions (power/volume) and the Onkyo receiver functions, however it cannot, apparently, do both. It is always the last device added that works, as if the remote memory cannot store both devices and bumps the first one once the second is added.

I appreciate those details, @user_336f8f. As a next step, try resetting the XR11 and re-pairing the receiver first and the TV second, then verify your LG TV's audio output is set to Optical/External Speaker. After making that change, does the remote control both the TV power and the receiver volume, or does it still only retain the last device that was paired?

The first time I tried this - reset remote, then receiver first, then tv (both manually with codes 31805, 12731), the receiver got "bumped" and did not respond to on/off. I tried entering the receiver again, and this time it worked properly. The TV and receiver are both responding to on/off simultaneously and all commands on the remote are working with both devices.

Whole thing seems kind of flaky to me with so many people having difficulty, the on-screen help screens don't seem to work and the erratic behavior over all. The engineers need to look into this and see if it can be made more reliable and easy for the user to do. Virtually everyone is using some kind of enhanced audio these days as the new TVs have excellent picture, but pretty crappy audio.

Nevertheless, thanks so much for your help!
