5Ghz wifi disappeared

I moved to a new home last month and transferred my service here. I got the XFi Gateway, it should be dual band, but the 5Ghz Wifi is not showing up anymore. No matter how I configure the network settings in Xifinty app (setting 5Ghz wifi name, password, enable/disable, broadcast wifi name, restart Gateway, everything), it only shows up the 2.4Ghz wifi, and I’m feeling it’s always under some auto switch 2.4/5Ghz thing for you mode. It’s driven me mad, I have a lot of 2.4Ghz-only device that have been glitching since this issue started. I’m a pro and I know what I am doing, so don’t suggest anything childish like restarting the device or check wifi passwords. Clearly your app and your device are not working properly, at least the app can’t control the device anymore. I want an explanation and a solution.

Hello @QX2183, thank you for reaching out to us. We will be happy to assist you with your connection issue. There is a possibility that things are set to auto where devices are automatically being assigned to provide the best signal. You can check to see if that is the case. Go to https://comca.st/3yS1vYL to see if you can seperate the networks! Let me know if you have any questions.

@XfinityJimmy Thank you for the info. Apparently I have an XB7 model and thus I CANNOT separate 2.4 and 5Ghz wifi anymore. This is ridiculous, how can Xfinity decide how I want my home wifi configured? Do you know how much problem this configuration can cause? You might as well “help” us “decide” wifi name and password to save our trouble of thinking one.
I feel very disappointed and offended by the policy. I’ll use a third party modem and router instead.

Even with the XB7 you should still have the option to separate your 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands in order to better manage your network. You would need to use the following steps:

  1. Open the Xfinity app or visit https://comca.st/3nQ96ki and sign in with your Xfinity ID and password.
  2. Go to the Connect tab.
  3. Select your network on the Xfinity app or select See Network on the xFi website.
  4. Select Advanced Settings.
  5. Select 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi.
  6. Select Edit next to the WiFi band you want to update.

Let me know if you are still having issues with your connection.

My 5 ghz wifi disappeared too! I went to the Xfinity store and traded iny xb7, and got the new xb8.  And still, there is no 5.0 ghz.    Strange.     Even the customer representative at the store said I was  4th person to tell him that....

@drygreen. When you have xFi pods there is only one name and the pod and gateway choose the best band for your devices. Does this help with your issue?

I no longer work for Comcast.
