Change hostname in modem.

There was a similar post that has been closed.  The solutions offered do not work for me.  I can change the name on the xFi app but that doesn't change in the modem.  The hostname in the modem is the MAC address.  The device is an Iomega NAS.  It is using DHCP to obtain its address.  When I list connected devices and edit the device I can only enter a comment or change the IP address from DHCP to static.  When I connect in to the iomega it has its name as iomega-01b526.

From my PC I can map a drive to \\iomega\folder.  I can also ping iomega and get a return from the iomega's IP.  From Windows, when I expand my network to view all devices on the net, I don't see the iomega, but do see my dlink NAS.  Looking for any suggestions.

It turns out the solution is simple and is close to one that was previously posted.  First, I turned off the Iomega NAS.  I removed it using the xFi app although I don't believe this had any real effect as the Iomega was still listed in the modem as a disconnected device.  I then added the Iomega as a new device with a static IP address where you can specify the hostname then give it an address and provide the MAC address.  I then turned on the Iomega.  Lo and behold there it is connected with hostname Iomega.  I then editted the Iomega to change the address back to DHCP. I turned it off and back on just to verify that the hostname stuck - it did.

Hello, Comcast doesn't provide any info on how to change MAC addresses. We want the Mac address to stay the same as it already is. Thanks!

I don't want to change the MAC address.  The MAC address has been assigned some how as the hostname.  I want to change the hostname.

Ok well we also will not be able to provide you information on that also sorry.  This xFi forum is about how to use the features in the xFi app as well as if you are having trouble with the xFi app. I am sorry but i will not be able to provide that kind of information it is outside of the demarc for the info that we provide to our customers.

I originally posted this in the xFi forum.  I have an Iomega NAS connected to the network.  When I connected it, the hostname assigined was its MAC address.  When you connect directly to the device, it calls itself Iomega-01b526.  I can change the name on the xFi app but that doesn't change the name in the modem.  It is using DHCP to obtain its address.  When I list connected devices and edit the device I can only enter a comment or change the IP address from DHCP to static but there is no place that I can find to change the hostname.

From my PC I can map a drive to \\iomega\folder.  I can also ping iomega and get a return from the iomega's IP.  From Windows, when I expand my network to view all devices on the net, I don't see the iomega, but do see my dlink NAS.  Looking for any suggestions.
