Connecting to Xfinity hotspot without Xfinity hotspot app

I never could get the Xfinity hotspot app to work, so I connected directly to the WIFI network XFINITY if I needed to use it, but for the past couple months I lost connection to this.  When I tried to redo, I saw additional items mentioned in my selection.  Does anyone know what I need to select?

EAP Method.

Phase 2 Authentication.

Depending on what I choose above, I will be provided with asking for my identity (user ID), password and maybe Domain.  Not sure what to choose for the Domain.  I am able to connect with xfinitywifi in my WIFI settings as that opens up a separate page, but I was informed it's unsecure.

Can someone please help?  Chat support is unhelpful.

Hello @radioboy20, thanks for reaching out for help with your hotspot connections.

Here’s a breakdown of the types of Xfinity networks available on your phone:

  • XFINITY: This is a secure public network. All data going over a secure WiFi network is encrypted so you can safely connect.
  • xfinitywifi: This is a public, unsecure network, similar to when you connect to a coffee shop's open WiFi.
  • cablewifi: This is another type of public, unsecure network, also similar to when you connect to a coffee shop's open WiFi. When this type of network is within range, follow the on-screen instructions to connect.

The XFINITY WiFi network is only available if you have an Xfinity login, and it sounds like it's asking you to sign in to your Xfinity account. I believe the "EAP" option is something for employees, while "Authentication" should be for customers. My recommendation is to select the option that lets you connect using your Xfinity user ID and password, or continue using "xfinitywifi".

Also, using the Xfinity hotspot app will make this process much easier. Can you please go into more detail as to what issue you have when trying to use the app?

Hi Ryan,

Thank you.  You can close ticket.  A friend showed me how the credentials mapped over from the Xfinity hotspot app to the WIFI settings.
