How can I manage modem and router settings without a phone app?

I used to be able to log into the admin interface for my Xfinity router, to manage QoS and other settings. Now it tells me I need an app. It appears there is not a way to do this on a PC. Why not? What about people who do not have smarttphones? I'm sure it saves the company money to disallow people from messing up settings unwittingly, but for people who are skilled and know what settings they need, it's frustrating to not be able to change them myself. No Windows app?

Hey there bjack56, thanks for joining our community forums! I apologize, but currently the only way to access the Admin Tool is to first allow access through the Xfinity App. If you have the Xfinity App installed, you can find steps to allow access here. Please let us know if that helps!

This is not acceptable. By removing my ability to manage the router without a smartphone you now increased the cost of using Comcast/Xfinity by thousands of dollars and placed undue burden on the customer.

Unfortunately you do need the mobile app in order to make adjustments, were you able to find a way to fix the issue that you had?

I ran into the same problem. I have been managing my internet by logging in via the local Ethernet link and my admin password. I mostly use this to verify who has been connecting to my wifi and to reset the cable network when it stops working., or to validate whether it is working. When I tried to connect on my browser it gave me a warning message about using the app. I seem to remember that you use to be able to do remote manageing through a web site, but I guess they took that down as well?

Some of the tech support responses say that the web interface sill exists, but don't include the web site name or URL. (plus some of the responses may be from last year or earlier and not have up to date info)

They recently updated the gateway's firmware. You have to turn on admin access in the app now;

https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/admin-tool-access

Open the Xfinity App. (You'll need a working connection for this step).

Go to the WiFi tab.

Select View WiFi equipment and open Advanced Settings.

Select Admin Tool online access.

Slide the toggle button to Allow Admin Tool access (ON).

Select Save.

After that, you should be able to navigate to http://10.0.0.1

Setting that remote access in phone app allows one to log in to the router without the app but will not allow one to make any changes inthe 'Advanced Settings' menu

Greetings @user_iumu54, and thanks for posting to the Xfinity forums, I hope this message finds you well. There are some option in the Admin tool that are not available because they are controlled by the Xfinity app. What settings were you trying to access?

I wanted to change settings for DMZ, DNS, port forwarding - essentially everything that is under the 'Advanced Settings' on the mobile app. These used to be available via the router's web interface when we were a customer 5y ago. We recently have returned to being a Comcast customer and I see these are only available on the moibile app.  All functions of the router should be accessible from the router's web interface like every other vendor's router we have worked with.

Hey there, thanks for reaching out over our community forums! Unfortunately the only way to allow access to the Admin Tool at this time is by first enabling it through the Xfinity App. You can find more information on our support page covering how to Allow Xfinity WiFi Gateway Admin Tool online access using the Xfinity app.

This is a trend where these "apps" require you to enter router / wifi name AND router password for my new printer.
