Xfinity TV Remote App going away

I just received an email from Xfinity stating that the Xfinity TV Remote App is going away as of 2/11/2025.  This is unacceptable.  I rely on this app not only to control my TV remotely for my aging mother who cannot change the channels but also to set recordings for TV shows remotely.  Why would Xfinity take away a much needed tool from its customers?  Please reconsider or offer an alternative that has all the same functionality for remote access and control when not at home where the TV box is located.  I looked at the web browser remote and it is not an acceptable alternative.  It is lacking most of the functionality that is in the Xfinity TV Remote App.

I agree! How do we convince Xfinity to keep this app? We use it all the time to schedule recording on the DVR

I can’t even delete old recordings!! Almost time for Utube TV

Xfinity could not care less about its customers, the only care about profit, and now they have saved to cost of keeping the app going.

Couldn’t agree with you more. That App was one of the best of similar apps. The ability to see the guide on your phone, schedule recordings etc was invaluable. Don’t understand why they are going backwards…now focusing on a Web browser?  Come on  Xfinity, you’re better than this

Xfinity is going backwards, not forward. Their email basically said, ‘Use your voice remote or use the web app remote.xfinity.com.

There is a lack of forward-thinking and innovation from Xfinity. They are taking away the Xfinity Remote app and telling you to use a web browser or physical remote.

Also, they really should have an Alexa skill that allows you to manage your cable box and change the channel using an Alexa skill. For example, I would love it if, using an Xfinity Alexa skill, I could say, “Alexa, change channel to 1458 on Xfinity cable box” or something along those lines.

Xfinity has an Alexa skill, but it is only for doorbells.

The lack if innovation from Xfinity, and the going backs to saying use a web site or physical device instead of an app, is astounding.

I agree with everyone else on here. It’s bad enough my bill went up $17 a month and now they take away a very valuable tool. I’m still upset they ruined the homepage.

Pay more and get less.

Yes, I am really angry at this stupid decision. So much easier to browse from the Remote app than the Guide. The app worked perfectly. What's next? Another price increase?

@user_8ca2ko, Hi there! Thanks for reaching out. I can understand the importance of wanting to keep this app as I like to use it when I can't find my remote as a customer myself. You've come to the right place. Over social media, we are a team of experts who specialize in providing solutions and alternatives. We are happy to assist. In reviewing this further, I did not see any information on my end for this app going away. Are you able to send over a screenshot of the email that you are using without including any of your personal information?

@XfinityGabriel Thank you for following up on this.  How do I send you a screenshot of the email I received saying the Xfinity TV Remote app is being retired?  I don't see an option to upload a photo/picture.

@user_8ca2ko, no worries. You are correct. The Xfinity Remote App will be retired on February 11th. If you still have it installed, you will be unable to use it and/or may encounter errors.

Awful decision Xfinity. Apparently you no longer care about your customers experience. We use the app to view current and upcoming program details, change channels, set and manage DVR recordings, search for shows and movies, and most of these are NOT something we can do with the web page remote you are asking us to use as a replacement. Definitely a step backwards on your end. This is unacceptable.

The voice remote is no where near as convenient as the app was.  I liked being able to see how much room I had left on my DVR.  The web remote is useless.  I liked being able to set shows to record with a click, look at current and future shows, and change the channel by clicking once on the channel next to the show.  With as much as I pay for this service, I should be having conveniences added not taken away.  I just feel this was a really poor decision.

I have tried using the fancy remote since I got the email.  It’s cumbersome and nowhere near as convenient.  it takes twice the effort to find the show I wanna watch and change the channel.    When did it become Xfinity policy to make using their service more difficult for their customers?  Who on Earth thought this would be a good idea?  I’ve got news for them, it really wasn’t.

@gbito this is the last straw with Xfinity. Been looking for alternatives for a while and this is just going to pick up the pace

We went through last December. Another bad decision to cancel.

Well, they did it. No more information but (for now anyway) names of programs still on guide section of the app but no program info and you can’t change stations or record from it. What slick in the pants to customers but then Comcast/Xfinity never did care about their customers.

Kick in the pants. Sorry!

I take back my previous post. Now even the guide is gone. I’m seriously going to explore other options. $300+/month is too much to pay for such poor service

at least you got an email ... I got nothing ... the app was working this morning when I turned the news on, after an hour or so I went to change the channel and found "We re unable to load your Guide at the moment. Please try again later." ...

thanks Xfinity for the slap in the face to your loyal customers ... I'm sure the 17 cents you are saving by not having this USEFUL app work for so many people is a thrill to the higher ups ....

This app was so convenient!  Could change channels, check space left, delete watched recorded shows, record shows while out of the house, etc., etc.  This is a big loss!  Please bring it back!

I looked at the web remote a few months ago and ago and found it lacking.  A couple of features I used frequently on the remote app are “coming up” and “on demand”.  Don’t see these on the web remote, if they are available their use is not intuitive.

Pretty big step backwards in terms of functionality and convenience!

We are all paying a lot. This is a major reduction in service. Your workaround is useless. Please bring this feature back. I don’t want to make a change.

Just noticed that anything you may have recorded to view later is gone… more incentive to drop xfinity

We use the Xfinity Remote app all the time.  It works perfectly, especially when away from home and we want to set a recording for the DVR.  I agree with others - please reconsider this decision.  If so many people rely on it, why did you remove the app?

HI @user_quq732 I greatly appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Good or bad, feedback is important to us to not only improve our products and services, but the customer experience as well. I would gladly pass along the feedback through the proper channels. You can utilize other options for setting recordings on the go with the Xfinity stream app.

Thank you!  The Stream app does have recording options from LiveTV (as apposed to TV Listings) and My Library Recording & Scheduled (as apposed to DVR Manager); however, no priority options, nor (%) percentage of how full the DVR is.  I, like others, had no notification of this change (and I had checked billing notes within the last month).

Not happy, but Thanks,

Bill

@XfinityJanelle I don't want other options! The app worked perfectly! What is wrong with you people??? First you took away the mobile email option, now this! Why take away things that people use!

1 Message

@XfinityJanelle The app was a resource for clients who have dimentia or other difficulty using a remote and recording their programs. It was a bonus that I could log in remotely from 400 miles away and change her channel or help set up recordings. The replacement does not have the same functions. It is better to be used instead of the TV remote in front of the TV and not from afar.

Who was the genius that came up with this idea?? When I tried to use this on my phone and web the only thing you get is a giant generic remote that does nothing!! (unless you use it as a remote for the TV) If I am near the tv I use the actual remote. I used the remote app often to record shows for my aging parents (who are digital compromised). I also used it to record shows from work or away. I thought upgrades were to make programs and apps better not worse! BRING BACK THE REMOTE APP as it was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn’t even get an email or any announcement I had to come here to find out what is going. That is the first problem with this disaster. What am I paying for?  No communication  and loss of functionality?   This is a terrible decision. We battled to get this back not too long ago.  Can you just tell us the reasoning?  It makes no sense. Why?  The biggest issue is that of you choose something from the guide in the Stream app , it plays on the phone. We want it to change on the TV. Put in an option to select the device.  At least give us something with the functionality that the remote app had. Xfinity is overpriced, unsupportive and quickly becoming unnecessary.

Same here, no email! What a poor decision to remove a capable system and suggest we go back to the 90’s.

I didn’t get any email either!

This is a poor decision for customers.  One of the best features of the old app was that you could scroll through the guide on your iPad, for example, without blocking whatever was on your TV at the time.  Please reinstall the previous system.

@ChicoLeroux exactly. The Stream app is almost there, it's so close. Just make it be able to control the cable box if you want it to.
