How do I unlock my Xfinity Mobile phone? (Answered)

Learn how to unlock your Xfinity Mobile phone so it can be used with another wireless carrier. Most of the time, your phone unlocks automatically within 48 hours of being paid off.

Here are other unlock rules:

  • Your phone must be activated for at least 60 days.
  • The phone must be paid in full.
  • Your Xfinity Mobile account cannot have a past-due balance.
  • Your phone cannot be reported lost, stolen, or involved in fraudulent activity.

If you feel you meet these conditions but your phone is still locked, please chat with Xfinity Assistant.

Phones won’t be eligible for use internationally unless the guidelines above are met.

Only the account holder, Primary user, or a Manager on a phone’s Xfinity Mobile account can request to have it unlocked.

Additional help unlocking your phone

Apple phones

Once you meet all requirements to unlock your phone, go to Apple support for steps to finish unlocking your iPhone.

Apple phones do not need an unlock code. They unlock through updates made when connected to WiFi or cellular data.

Newer Android phones (2022 or later)

Once you meet all requirements to unlock your phone, restart it. Most of the time, no more steps are needed to complete the process.

Once your phone restarts, you should see an alert that says either, "Carrier lock removed. The device can now be used on any network." or "Your phone has been unlocked. You can now use it on any compatible network or service provider."

To check your phone’s unlock status:

  1. Restart your phone.
  2. Put in a SIM card from another service provider.
  3. Go to the Home screen and look for the "Phone Locked" message.
  4. Make sure your phone is connected to cellular data or WiFi.
  5. When connected, the unlock message is in the notification panel.

Some phones may ask for an unlock code. You can contact Xfinity Mobile. We can send an unlock code email to the email address linked to your Xfinity Mobile account. The email will contain the code and steps to take. Enter the code into your phone to unlock it.

Older Android phones

Once you meet all requirements to unlock your phone, an email with an unlock code is sent. This goes to the address linked to your Xfinity Mobile account.

Once you get the unlock code:

  1. Insert a new SIM card into the phone.
  2. The phone asks for a network unlock code.
  3. Tap the field above the line and put in the unlock code.
  4. Tap Unlock.

For some Android phones, the unlock code may not work on its own. If you put in the unlock code and are asked for an unfreeze code, or you enter the wrong unlock code too many times, you will need to enter an unfreeze code too.  Unfreeze codes are not sent in emails. Contact an Xfinity Mobile agent if you need an unfreeze code.

Motorola phones

For Motorola phones, if you enter the wrong code too many times, you may see a message on your phone that says, “Too many attempts, please try again later.” This message means the phone reached its maximum number of unsuccessful unlock attempts. The phone is now in a cool-down timeout set for three minutes. After three minutes, you can request to complete the unlock process with the right code.

If you restart your phone during the timeout, the three-minute window starts again when powered back up.

If you’re in the military

If you are an active member of the armed forces, you may be eligible to unlock your phone before it’s fully paid off.

All other unlock guidelines still apply.

To unlock your phone before it’s paid off, you must get:

  • Orders to deploy outside the U.S. for more than 90 days or
  • A permanent change of duty station within the U.S.

Please bring your deployment paperwork into a local Xfinity Retail Store or call 1-888-936-4968 to securely provide your deployment paperwork electronically. Find an Xfinity Retail Store featuring Xfinity Mobile near you.
