Location issue when using Xfinity Stream app with Fire stick on iphone hotspot

When trying to access any channels through the Xfinity Stream app on a Firestick while using my Iphone hotspot I get the message of "we've got a location issue.  Unfortunately, we can't play this video within this market".  It does not matter if I select a channel from my entire listing or from the To Go channel listings.  I have tried numerous fixes.  I have done an online chat where I was told what I want to do is impossible and I need a streaming package, not a tv package.  I also went into my local store and they supposedly opened up a ticket.  Attached are images of settings in the Xfinity app on the Firestick.  There has to be a solid work around for this whether it is an app setting, phone setting, or a combination of settings across all items involved.

user_5cade5 Sorry to hear that you're having trouble accessing your channels on the go. Have you checked that all the requirements are met for your setup? https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/stream-app-on-amazon-fire. Do you see similar issues when trying to stream any channels while connected to your home network?

The most recent online chat I did suggested next time to filter to “available out of home” while in the app. I haven’t had a chance to try this though. I still wonder if the issue is because I’m using my iPhone hot spot and Xfinity does not like the ip address. I’ve been told to try many different things and so far nothing has worked so hopefully filtering will fix it although I have my doubts since I’ve tried random channels without the filter and got the same location error with all of them.

Thank you for sharing that information, @user_5cade5 . If you're using your iPhone's hotspot connection, that could potentially be contributing to the issue, as mobile hotspot connections sometimes use IP addresses and routing paths that can create challenges with location validation and device authentication systems. That said, we can't definitively determine that's the cause without additional testing. If possible, I'd recommend trying the connection from your home Xfinity internet service or another wired/wireless broadband connection to see if the behavior changes.

Yes it works perfectly fine on my home network. Do you think the ip address issue would be resolved if I connected my phone to an Xfinity hot spot before connecting the fire stick to the phone?

That's fantastic that it's working on your home network, @user_5cade5 ! Based on what you've described, that helps narrow down the cause of the issue. When you use your iPhone's hotspot, your device is connecting through a different network and is assigned a different public IP address than it receives on your home Xfinity connection. Some channels and streaming services use network-location verification to determine whether you're connected to your home network. Because of that, the service may identify the hotspot connection as being outside the home, which can prevent access to channels that require an in-home connection. Since you're able to view the channels while connected to your home network, that suggests the service is working as expected on your Xfinity connection. The issue appears to be related to how the hotspot connection is being identified rather than a problem with your account or channel package. I'm glad to hear it's working properly on your home network! 💙

This has reached new levels of insanity. So somehow an xfinity wifi hotspot isn’t showing up on my phone while at my office even though when I search for hotspots they’re all around me. So I download a casting app to my fire stick and everything appears to be communicating except what I am playing on my phone is not casting to my fire stick even though my phone acts like it’s connected to the firestick. It feels like the Internet is the sole issue with all of this. It is crazy to me you cannot just simply watch Xfinity stream on a fire stick that isn’t connected to your home network yet I can watch it all day long using my att cellular data on my phone.

We can understand why this feels unnecessarily complicated, especially since the same Xfinity Stream account works on your iPhone over AT&T cellular data.

One important clarification is that an Amazon Fire TV can be used away from your home network for channels labeled TV Go, so being away from your home Xfinity WiFi does not automatically prevent the Fire Stick from streaming. Xfinity specifically lists Amazon Fire TV as supported for out-of-home TV Go viewing.

Based on everything you have tested, the iPhone hotspot itself may be affecting how the Fire Stick’s location is being identified. That would also explain why the iPhone can stream directly over cellular while the Fire Stick connected through that same phone receives the market-location error. That is an inference from the behavior you are seeing, not something we have confirmed yet.

Rather than continuing with casting apps or trying to locate an Xfinity hotspot, please try the Available Out of Home/TV Go filter directly in the Xfinity Stream app on the Fire Stick and test a few channels from that list. If those channels also return the same “we’ve got a location issue” message, let us know which channels you tested and the city/state where you were located at the time. At that point, we can treat this specifically as an out-of-home location validation issue rather than continuing to troubleshoot your TV package or home internet service.

I was able to use the To Go channels after connecting to my office guest wifi.  However on random channels I am getting the playback 2111 error.  I force stop the app.  I updated the app.  I cleared the app cache and data.  Do you know what else could cause the playback 2111 error?
