is this a scam
I just got a voice mail saying that "you're just moments away from losing your 50% discount on your monthly bill... call back on the number showing on your caller ID right now to stop your rate from doubling..." Since my bill is in the mid-four figures I'd love a discount, and certainly dread raised rates, but this has got to be a scam, right?

Correct. Such calls, texts. and emails are usually from scammers, especially if you are asked to pay in advance, by gift card, or by crypto. See https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/customer-service/target-gift-card-scam-beware-they-are-good/6785304bec3cb6282636396d for a description of what happens if you fall for one of these.
