Steaming without home internet

I am writing on behalf of my elderly parents. They switched to Xfinity from Fios due to costs. They are on a fixed income and have basic tv and phone. They don’t use or need internet. However they like to stream when watching tv away from the one home cable box. But many programs say they have to be connected to home wifi. How can they get around this issue?

@user_00ggn4 Thank you so much for help with your questions about the Xfinity Stream app when you do not have Xfinity home internet. To have the Stream app Mirror your X1 TV box option you would need to have Xfinity home internet. However, there are over 250 options you can still use. When you do not have Xfinity home internet you would have access to the out-of-home options or TV-to-go options.

Understood. But they can’t even stream to their phones to watch that way whether at home or not without being connected to home internet.

They should just make sure they have the TV to go filter on when looking at the guide to see the channels that will work no matter where they are or the network they are connected to. If that is not an option or is not working we would need a little more information like what error messages or code they are getting.

Thank you, but why can’t they access everything via streaming? They pay for telephone and TV and should be entitled to stream all the content they pay for.

user_00ggn4 That is an easy answer my friend. The TV shows and movies (free to watch, available to rent for a fee or for purchase) with an Xfinity TV package are under licensing agreements that can limit where and the amount of time we offer programming in the Xfinity Stream portal and on mobile devices with the Xfinity Stream app.

Most of the channels we provide to you are owned by media companies other than Comcast. We obtain the rights to carry channels according to agreements (or contracts) with those companies. Learn more about our programming contracts.

I don’t think we are on the same page. My parents have a tv package. They have one set box as per their fixed income budget. When they want to watch in another room they are prompted to log into home internet to watch certain channels that they already have. This isn’t right. They should be able to stream what they are already paying for but they don’t have or need internet.

We will pass along your feedback to our app team for review. As previously mentioned, your parents would need to subscribe to our internet service to fully access their channel line up on the Stream app. Let us know if you have any other questions.
