Unable to Stream in Browesrs (most recent Firefox and Chromes browsers) on a Windows 10 PC

For the past several months I have been unable to stream in a browser window on a laptop. I have the most recent browsers (firefox/Mozilla and Chrome) but there is still an issue (it just sits on the purple screen of death). During the day, I do not have a device (iPad, tablet, not phone) to use an app for streaming and would like to be able to complete this task on my laptop (preferably in a browser).  I do not want to use resources acquiring a new laptop to stream - as the laptop functions as desired for all other needs. Open to suggestions that hopefully do not require the use of additional monetary resources. I have already lost the ability to control and customize my internet experience in the web browser. Hoping this is not something else that I will be limited in using due to its dependency on device use and access. I am left wondering if xFinity is implying that if you do not have access to a device regularly, you are not their target demographics.

luced Hi there! We definitely understand how frustrating it is when something that should work just… doesn’t. Streaming should absolutely be available in your browser, and we want to help you get back to watching without needing to purchase a new device.

A few things that might help resolve this issue:

  1. Clear Cache & Cookies – Sometimes stored data can interfere with streaming. Try clearing your browser's cache and cookies, then restart the browser and try again.

  2. Disable Extensions – Some browser extensions (like ad blockers or privacy-focused tools) can prevent streaming from working correctly. Try disabling them temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.

  3. Update or Reinstall Widevine Plugin – Widevine is a necessary component for secure video playback. If it’s missing or outdated, it can cause streaming failures.
  4. Try Incognito/Private Mode – This can help rule out any interference from extensions or cached data.
  5. Check Firewall or Security Software – Sometimes security settings or firewall rules can block streaming services. Temporarily disable them to see if streaming works.
  6. Flush DNS & Restart Modem – Run "ipconfig /flushdns" in Command Prompt and restart your modem to clear any potential network-related issues.

Streaming should work on a supported browser without needing additional devices, and we definitely aren’t limiting anyone based on what device they use. If none of these steps work, let us know—we’re happy to keep troubleshooting with you!
