Xfinity Stream on LG C3 – Lost Fast‑Forward & Commercial Skip

I’m using the Xfinity Stream app on an LG C3 TV (WebOS), and two features recently stopped working:

  1. While a recording is still in progress, I can start watching it, but I can no longer fast‑forward.

  2. After the recording finishes, commercial skip no longer appears and the commercial markers are missing in the recording details.

These features used to work normally. Nothing has changed on my TV, internet, or account. I have attempted fixes for the LG to clear data and reset the app. This appears to be a backend or app‑side issue affecting LG WebOS.

Please escalate this to the Cloud DVR engineering team. Other users are reporting similar problems, so it seems like a recent update may have caused this.

Thank you.

Hello user_f66961, thank you for reaching out here in our Xfinity Community forum. We appreciate your time, and I will be happy to assist you. I have found that Stream app support from LG TVs is spotty at best. However, you have some experience with using the stream app on your LG TV?

Since Xfinity stopped allowing me to use TIVO several years ago I have depended on the Stream App they suggested would fulfill my needs. When it is working right it is fine, but bugs have come up from time to time that apparently are widely reported. I noted today that some programs now have the commercial skip available again, but you cannot watch a recording show and use fast forward until it has finished recording. It doesn't work. And to make matters worse if you are watching a show that is recording and the recording ends per the set time, say 6pm, then what you are watching ends, too, no matter where you are in the program. It stops and you must start over since it doesn't save your location. At least you can restart the program and fast forward to where you'd gotten to watching it. Hard to explain clearly, but it is a bug. I try to wait until the program has finished recording and then watch it like normal and with the ability to fast forward or reverse as I wish, and sometimes use commercial skip if it processed it accordingly.

Per my original bug report here in this thread, the problem is buried in Stream not being able any longer to watch a program that is still recording like before the bug prevented fast forwarding, and if you do start watching it will stop the playback when the recording finishes without saving your location (must restart and search for where you were). Seems minor, but very annoying. I guess, like you said, there is little effort and support for the Stream app on LG TV's, one of the best brands. I really really wish I could still use my TIVO, a far superior way to watch and record that was taken away from me.

In a prior DM with a bug report the tech didn't have an LG TV. Eventually they got that problem fixed without me, but really ...  customers shouldn't have to do more than report the bugs, not help resolve them.

I've reported the bugs in a DM as suggested by JeffB since there are still problems.  "New bugs are affecting playback of 'recording shows' using the LG Xfinity Stream app. 1) If a show is recording you cannot start playback and have access to fast forward. 2). If you begin playback of a program while it is recording it will stop playback at the time the recording finishes and you must restart the playback from the beginning. You can fast forward, however, to find where the recording stopped and resume watching. These bugs began a month ago and I reported it on the forum, but they have not been fixed."
