xfinity stream on roku channel jumps to higher number

When I select a channel - in the 7xx range for example, and then attempt to go back to that channel using the 'last watched' selection, the same channel will appear but it will be the equivalent channel in a higher range - 1xxx for example. This is very annoying as I do not have all of the channels memorized in all of the ranges available.

I have the problem on multiple roku devices.

I do not have the problem on my X1 DVR.

I believe this began happening about 4 or 5 months ago. I see many people have reported this issue but I have not found a response that explains how to fix it or that it may not be fixed.

Thanks

Hello, user_flj0ec. Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like the Playback preferences are set to 'Play best available'. When this setting is enabled, the Xfinity Stream app will choose the best available version of a channel, or On Demand program for you. You can change the setting, by going into the main Xfinity Stream app settings area, scroll down to 'Playback preferences', and toggle 'Play best available' to off. With that off you should be taken to the exact channel you select, or when last watched is selected.

Hi, Thanks for the reply!

I went into the xfinity stream setting menu. I moved to the 'playback preferences' but did not find the 'Play best available' setting you suggested. there were two selections in 'playback preferences'

- Auto Play next episode: option on or off

- Format: options HD prefered on or off

Please let me know if I am looking at the correct settings menu? I have several Roku devices and did not see the option you listed above.

Best Regards!

Hey there @user_flj0ec Yep that's the right spot! The setting you'll want to adjust is "Format". It should have "HD Preferred" and "All Available Formats". Selecting the latter will allow you to select any channel and not be auto-forwarded to the highest version. When selecting from your last viewed, it will go right back to that channel as well!  The article below has a lot of great information about using Xfinity Stream On Roku.

... the same channel will appear but it will be the equivalent channel in a higher range ...

Restating the above answers in a slightly different way: To turn that off, try setting:

(Home screen) / Settings / Playback Preferences / Format

to "All Available Formats" instead of "HD Preferred".

Hi again, Sorry for the delay between responses!

Well, I tried the above suggestions - that is: I selected 'All available Formats' instead of 'HD preferred' - and there is no change in behavior. When I select 'Last Watched' on my Roku remote, it will always take me to a channel in the higher numerical range.

If you have any other suggestions or troubleshooting ideas, please let me know.

Best Regards!

@user_flj0ec No problem, we can see the history so as long as you are responding within a few days we can pick up where things left off. Can you access the streaming app on a different device like your computer or tablet to see if you run into the same issue when using the last watched option and let me know the results?
