access denied across multiple commercial sites

This is getting a bit ridiculous. When accessing more and more sites (macys.com, homedepot.com, etc., I am receiving an Access denied message from the site web service - presumably from the firewall.

The error message is:

Access Denied

You don't have permission to access "http://www.homedepot.com/" on this server.

I have contacted some of the site IT departments and they claim that my IP address is being blocked by their firewall software.

The fun part is that the IP address comes from Xfinity.

Meanwhile, I have scanned all of the machines and none show any signs of malware. As a former network engineer and cybersecurity specialist this looks like someone is abusing the Xfinity IP addresses and customers are getting stuck with marked IP addresses that they can't release/renew on the modems.

If I use my Android as a hotspot, or enable a VPN, every machine connects seamlessly, so I know it is not an issue on the endpoints or the browsers.

The Xfinity XB7 modem does not allow me to request a new IP. Shutting down the modem for an hour merely renews the same IP address when it reboots.

At this point my choice is either switching to another provider or shelling out a few hundred dollars to buy my own modem and separate router, which would allow to have more control over the Xfinity IP address allocated when needed.

Seriously, this is a serious issue and I have seen multiple reports from others on the Xfinity forums without any clear resolution.

Same issue here. I keep getting blacklisted as well even after getting a new IP. Scanned all my devices for malware and nothing. ISP (Xfinity/Comcast) don't care. Customer support just blame not having their equipment even though it would happen on theirs also as many others have reported. I've just given up, not worth my time anymore.

oranges1880 Thanks for letting us know you are experiencing a similar issue. Do you have Advanced security set up?

If you're trying to access a website that you think is being mistakenly blocked by Advanced Security, you can submit a request for reassessment at spa.xfinity.com. The request will be reviewed, and an update will typically be provided within three business days.

To submit a request to have a blocked website reviewed for possible unblocking:

  1. Go to spa.xfinity.com.
  2. Select Report an issue at the bottom of the page.
  3. Select I can't reach a website that I want to go to from the drop-down menu. Then, click Continue.
  4. Fill out the required fields.

    • Enter the full URL for the blocked site.
    • Enter your email address to receive a confirmation email.

I am experiencing the same thing.  This started a few weeks ago.  I could not log into Xfinity on my Chrome browser.  For some reason I could still log into Xfinity with Firefox.  I was using Firefox for the last couple of weeks then today Firefox is giving me the same error.  This is definitely an Xfinity issue.  It is their email application and they are my internet service provider.  On the phone with them now.
