Adding ethernet connections
I have XB8 modem with 4 ethernet ports in the back. I want to add extra 4 or 5 wired connections. So, my thoughts are:
1- Connecting to the XB8 a TP-Link AX6000 which has also 4 ports and faster Wi-Fi speed. However, I am not sure if enabling bridge mode on the modem will make it lose the ethernet ports.
2- Just adding a wired gigabit VPN router like TP-Link ER605 V2.
Any advise?

Only one port will be active on the XB8 if you put it into bridge mode. And if you are going to hang a stand-alone / separate router off of it, it really needs to be in bridge mode otherwise you will have an undesirable "double NAT" condition on your home network.
Google "double NAT" for info about its potential pitfalls. It may break some applications. You'll lose the XB8's WiFi as well.
