Best way to boost speeds on Xbox

Hello, I currently have a Xbox one S and I am using an Ethernet connection (from Xfinity store cat5) and I am still experiencing lags what’s recommended? I opened the ports that needed to be opened already.

Greetings @user_ljp9de! It’s definitely frustrating to still deal with lag even when you’re hardwired with Ethernet! Since you’ve already tackled port forwarding, we should look at a few other factors that could be throttling your performance. To help me narrow this down, could you answer a few questions?

Which Gateway model are you currently using?

What speeds are you seeing when you run a speed test?

Is the lag constant or does it happen more frequently during peak hours (like evenings and weekends)?

Hello, I currently have the XB10 speeds we see around 2000 to 19000 mbps out of 2100 . The lag will happen at random times even when it is not peak hours.

@user_ljp9de, it's likely a hardware bottleneck or a local setting conflict rather than your Xfinity signal, as your speed is actually looking solid.
Here are a few things to try:

1. Upgrade your Ethernet Cable:
You mentioned using a Cat5 cable from the store. Standard Cat5 cables are capped at 100 Mbps. Swap it for a Cat6 or Cat6a cable. This will allow your Xbox One to actually talk to your gateway at its full gigabit potential.

2. Hard Power Cycle:

Residual power in the console can maintain "glitchy" network states.

Hold the Xbox button on the front of the console for 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.

Unplug the power cable from the back for at least 2 minutes. Plug it back in and restart.

3. Check Console Speed Limits:

Keep in mind that the Xbox One S has a 1 Gbps (1000 Mbps) internal network card. If you run a speed test on the console and see 700-900 Mbps, you are hitting the max hardware limit.
