Bridge Mode for Motorola MT7711
I wanted to post this message to clear up some confusion about setting a Motorola MT7711 cable modem to Bridge mode with Xfinity. A previous post in these forums seemed to indicate that this was not possible, but that is not the case. With the proper instructions from Motorola (shown below), I was able to successfully set the cable modem to Bridge mode.

I recently acquired a Motorola MT7711 cable modem, which is on the Xfinity approved cable modem list, and I was able to get it properly activated with Xfinity. Everything seemed to be working great but I noticed that I was no longer able to view my non-Xfinity security camera system remotely. It turned out the cable modem was operating as the primary router and my Asus router was no longer handling DDNS and port forwarding. I realized that I needed to set my MT7711 cable modem in Bridge mode but this setting would not work. When I made the change, my entire network was unavailable and I had to reset the cable modem to factory settings to get things back to their original state.
I searched these forums and found the inaccurate forum message referenced above. I contacted Xfinity support and they told me they had no control over a non-Xfinity cable modem, and that I needed to reach out to Motorola support. Motorola support is only available through email but they responded within 24 hours with the instructions shown below. The trick is to disconnect the Xfinity coax cable from the cable modem before changing the configuration. These instructions worked perfectly for me, and I was able to set my cable modem to Bridge mode within 10 minutes.

What is BRIDGE MODE?
Typically, two pieces of equipment are required to connect to the Internet and the Wireless network in your home:
- A modem connects your home to an Internet Service Provider's network.
- A router connects your wired and wireless devices to your modem.
Motorola has gateway models that combine the modem and router into one piece of equipment.
However, there may be times when you may want to use your own router.
To do this, you will have to enable the BRIDGE MODE feature on your gateway. This turns off its routing capabilities while leaving the modem capabilities on.
Notes
- Motorola model numbers starting with the letters MB (7220, 7420, 7621 and 8600) are known as Bridge Modems. as such, they are already in Bridge Mode by default, no further configuration is required.
- Your Service Provider, if they are sending a reset signal or an update to your device, that may take the unit out of Bridge Mode and back into its default, modem and router combination mode.
PUTTING CABLE MODEM/ROUTER INTO BRIDGE MODE - STEPS:
(For the MG7700, MG8725 and MT8733 scroll to the bottom for instructions)
- Disconnect the coaxial cable from the back of the modem/router.
- Turn off the modem/router, then turn it back on.
- Hold down the WLAN button on the back of the unit for 5 seconds and then confirm that the wireless indicator LED is now off.
- Connect an Ethernet cable between the modem/router and a computer.
- On the computer, open your browser and type in the address bar 192.168.0.1
- Press Enter
- The username is admin, and the password is motorola. Click on Login.
- Click on Advanced on the top right-hand corner.
- Click on Status, then click on Connections.
- The setting you’re looking for is eRouter Provisioning. Click on the drop-down menu to make it say Bridged. Click Save.
**If this step is grayed out for you, or you are not able to click the drop-down menu, this means that you still have the COAX cable connected to your modem.
If you unplugged the COAX cable and you are still unable to select ""Bridge"" -- you need to power down your modem, and power it back up.
Once you power the modem back up and login (Step 4) - you should now have that option to select ""Bridge"" mode
- Reconnect the coaxial cable while the modem/router is rebooting. Note that, you will no longer be able to log into the interface.
- Remove the computer you used to log into the modem/router and connect the Ethernet cable to your other router instead.
- Turn off the modem/router and turn it back on, so that it binds to the MAC Address of the router.
MG7700, MG8725 and MT8733 - Put into bridge mode:
- Disconnect the coaxial cable from the back of the modem/router.
- Turn off the modem/router, then turn it back on.
- Connect an Ethernet cable between the modem/router and a computer.
- On the computer, open your browser and type in the address bar 192.168.0.1
- Press Enter
- The username is admin, and the password is motorola or the unique password printed on the label at the bottom of the device. Click on Login.
- Click on Advanced on the top right-hand corner.
- Click on wireless, then Radio.
- Under 2.4 you will need to disable the wireless radio and the select save. You will notice the 2.4 wireless LED on the front of the router turn off.
- Follow the same steps as listed above for the 5g radio. You will see the 5g LED go off as well once saved.
- Click on Status, then click on Connections.
- The setting you’re looking for is eRouter Provisioning. Click on the drop-down menu to make it say Bridged. Click Save.

I just purchased a mesh system (TP-Link deco) and was struggling w/ setup.
I will try this.
Question.. once I put the modem in Bridge mode, I will no longer have wifi
To setup the mesh system, I need to use an app on my iPhone
my iPhone needs wifi (i only get 1 bar of cell service at my house)
will wifi be re-established once I plug in the first mesh router ?
Am I missing something or is there a work-around ?

@McCool55 @XfinityJeniece Only the public WiFi hotspot will remain available if a Comcast gateway device is placed in to bridge mode. The private WiFi home network will be disabled as well as all router functions....

There is a note on the Xfinity support page related to bridge mode that may affect some users. Their article, "Use Bridge Mode on your wireless gateway" says, in part,
"We understand, however, that there may be times when you may want to use your own router. To do this on our network, you'll have to enable the Bridge Mode feature on your wireless gateway, which turns off its routing capabilities while leaving the modem capabilities on. Then, you may connect and use your own router. Note: Any ethernet port can be used but only one device can be connected to the gateway while in Bridge Mode." [emphasis added]
This is an important note. In our case, we also use powerline adapters, so that remote computers in our house can connect directly to the internet without using WiFi (theoretically, a bit more secure when banking, etc.). We currently have the ethernet line from the master powerline adapter plugged into one of the MT7711 LAN ports. When activating our new standalone router, we'll transition that ethernet line to the new WiFi router. The new WiFi router will have the sole ethernet connection to the MT7711.
