can not change wifi channel or band

It seems that recently the xfinity app no longer allows one to manage/change the wifi broadast band or channel. Is this true? Of course it has been prevented for a while on the local network webpage (although you can see the settings to change they are greyed out).

What is the purpose of preventing someone leasing this equipment from making necessarty changes to maintain performance?

Using a wifi analyzer It appears that most xfinity products "prefer" channel 157 on a 5Ghz network. This renders that channel useless for the bandwidth I am paying for. And now I cannot move my wifi to an empty channel. Seems your algorithm needs some work. Further, even when I was able to change the channel / band that Xfinity (under the guise of managing the system) would merely put it back within an hour or two to channel 157. Can this setting be made available again for the renter and some level of effort be made to stop xfinity from resetting it or is this a way to advocate that folks stop renting your modem and fix this issue on their own?

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

It makes absolutely no sense why they would take this feature off for people who are paying for their equipment

Thanks for posting on our Community Forums for assistance, user_ogpw5f. You're able to split the bands through our Xfinity App by selecting Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Details > Edit Wi-Fi Settings > Split Bands. Additionally, you can enable access to the Admin Tool on the Xfinity App as well. The advanced features that can be modified will be available there or through our Xfinity App. You can enable access by selecting Wi-Fi > View Wi-Fi Equipment > Advanced Settings > Admin Tool Online Access.

Unfortunately those options are no longer available or appear not to be working on the latest version of the xfinity app (5.63.0 - Apple Store). I am having the same experience as user_ogpw5f and user_xku5w1. The app no longer allows me to manual set a channel, the option to split the bands (again via the app) doesn't save, it appears to just ignore the setting. And logging into the router admin tool directly and navigating the WiFi section only allows to change names, passwords or enable/disable them; everything else is grey-out (disabled) with a message that says you can do all of this in the xfinity app; in reality its less than a third.

Either have the band splitting actually work and bring back the ability to manually assign the band or (as suggested) improve the algorithm as it seems to favor the most congested band.

Ideally all of the above would be nice.

My Router is XB7, Firmware CGM4331COM_8.2p5s1_PROD_sey

Hello, @user_wd3q8r Your Xfinity Gateway likely has WiFi Intelligence, an advanced WiFi technology feature that automatically adjusts WiFi settings to optimize the customer's WiFi experience on the Xfinity Gateway. When WiFi Intelligence is available on a gateway, it will automatically begin optimizing the WiFi network. Once enabled, customers can no longer manage the following settings in the Admin Portal.

  • WiFi Mode
  • Channel Selection
  • Channel Mode
  • Channel Bandwidth
  • Security Mode
  • WiFi Network Name/Password will be grayed out in the Admin Portal and customers will be instructed to use the Xfinity app to manage these settings moving forward.

Xfinity Web/Mobile App

After WiFi Intelligence is enabled (the 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi section will be removed)
