Cannot get above 40 Mbps upload speed with UCI modem on 2 Gbit plan

I am unable to get faster than 40 Mbps upload speed using a UCI modem on a 2 Gbit plan. I have tried contacting tech support multiple times and they keep trying the same steps with no fix. Most recently, tech support told me I needed an Xfinity modem and that my brand new UCI modem (which is on the Next Gen compatibility list) would not work and that I should return it. I cannot return the modem.

Because that is the upload speed they support. Despite saying for years they were going to upgrade to things like "mid split" and "FDX DOCSIS 4" they still simply will not do it. Not to mention most of Comcast's network is fiber all the way to the subdivision or sometimes small neighborhood less than a mile from the CMTS. They want to spend as little money as possible and charge as much as they can. Instead of paying once in the 2007 timeframe when fiber was the big push or again in 2014 when going to DOCSIS3 and later DOCSIS3.1, they continue to want to shell out money to cable labs to support a standard that should have been eliminated. They are realizing the cost of their mistake now, and they still want to jam copper and DOCSIS down our throats.

Hi there, @user_tptd0o! You are at the right place for help with getting the upload speed you are subscribed to with the UCI modem. Most times when I run into this concern, it has to do with what bootfile is coming through to your modem. The bootfile controls the speed tier and is sent automatically by our system. 

 

1. If you have a router, unplug it from the power cable. Reset your modem, wait for it to come back online, then plug the router back in. The router can sometimes intercept the provisioning signal. It will look processed but never made it to the modem. 

2. It is always best to just have 1 modem listed on your account. Our system will sometimes read the other modems. If they are not compatible with the faster speed, our system won't send the correct bootfile. I like to remove any modems not in use to rule that out.

3. Your equipment should also be listed in a specific order in our systems. That is something we need to check and update from our end. 

 

Have you tried to reset the modem (with the router unplugged if you have one) already?

The statement ''The router can sometimes intercept the provisioning signal'' is incorrect. It just doesn't work that way. A standalone router is connected downstream from a standalone modem. It can't block signals sent to the modem.

I’m having the same issue. Just upgraded speeds but speeds are stuck on old speeds.

Hi there, @user_5whg1p. Are you also using a retail modem? If so, please make sure you're subscribed speed is supported by the device here : https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/customerowned. You also want to make sure you reset the power for the device once activated, so it gets the appropriate file, and that you're testing with a direct ethernet connection for the most accurate speed test result. @XfinityFrank​ I’m using the same UCI modem this thread is about. Turns out phone support was trying to activate using “new” modem Comcast mailed me instead of the UCI. Once they activated my UCI on new plan, it all works as expected speeds.
