Dell Laptop Connecting to Pod Instead of Gateway

My home office is in the same room as my Xfinity Gateway. However my computer continues to connect to the Xfinity wifi pod on the far side of the house, which gives me slower internet. This is very disruptive to my work. I've tried "forgetting" my wifi on my laptop, but the issue persists. How can I fix this problem?

user_328bxt Hey there! We appreciate you taking time out of your day to contact our Xfinity Support Team. I see that you mentioned that your work computer is automatically going to a wifi pod in the home instead of the modem in the same room. As someone that works from home I can see how inconvient this is and we got your back to improve this situation in the home office. Does the device connect to pod right away or does it take a while? We will help you explore all of your options to try to do this wirelessly.

Good morning and thank you for reaching out to help. The laptop usually connects to the Gateway first, then to the pod. It will bounce back and forth between Gateway and pod from there. If I could, I would "dedicate" my laptop to the Gateway to avoid this issue altogether. Unfortunately, Xfinity doesn't offer that solution.

Good morning, thank you for those details. While we don’t currently offer a way to dedicate your laptop to the Gateway, here are a few steps that might help:

  1. Turn off the Wi-Fi pod temporarily – This will force your laptop to stay connected to the Gateway.
  2. Manually connect to the 5 GHz band – This could help your laptop stay with the faster Gateway signal.
  3. Move the Gateway or pod – Reducing interference and improving signal strength can help.

I hope this helps! If you’re still having trouble, feel free to reach out, and we’ll keep working on a solution. Thanks for your patience!
