Ethernet dosent have valid ip

Ive tried setting up my router another router and my laptop to the modem. Laptop says ethernet has no valid ip. Xbox will connect to modem. It's been an issue I've looked at a few times and always just plug the Xbox back in. I really need my laptop connected and it would be nice to have wifi again.

Thank you for reaching out to us @user_kbml3l! If you are using one of our Xfinity Wireless Gateways as the modem and have it set to bridge mode, only one ethernet port will be active. This means only 1 router can be connected to the Wireless Gateway while in bridge mode.

Typically customers will plug in other ethernet devices to the router or have an ethernet switch connected to the router if they need additional hardwired connections. If you are using your own modem, please check the user manual and contact the device’s manufacturer to see if it supports having multiple routers.

I don't have a router hooked up. The only thing that gets internet through my modem is my Xbox. The router wont connect, laptop wont connect. I have tried both a few times.

Thank you for clarifying that @user_kbml3l. Please disconnect all devices from the modem, factory reset the modem, and then connect the router to the modem. The router may also need to be factory reset.

I have reset everything many times. Xbox is the only thing that will ever connect.
