Ethernet No Connection but wifi works

I am at the initial start of setting up a new desktop computer and when I attempt to connect with a wired connection using ethernet. It says no connection, but as soon as I connect with Wi-Fi, it works.

However, I need a wire connection. How can I fix this?

Have you first tried using a different port on the router ? And swapping out the ethernet cable for a known to be good one ?

I'm having a similar problem. I've tried 3 different devices and 2 ethernet cables. Is there something in the modem that has to be set. I have the tall black modem.

And I tried both ethernet ports on the modem.

mike3399 I understand you're experiencing a similar issue. Have you successfully hardwired the device before, or has it always given you trouble? Also, do you use your own modem, or do you rent an Xfinity Gateway?
