Gateway (Router, Modem) is making a loud whining noise

My Xfinity gateway is making a very loud whining noise. I've tried all the usual things, but nothing will shut it up. The device is in the living room and I can hear it from the bedroom. It is loud and high-pitched and crazy-making. The AI Xfinity Assistant is even more crazy-making. I hope that's not the future of AI. I digress. I can't find a customer service phone number anywhere on the web site. Beyond joining the Luddites, I don't know what to do. Many thanks in advance for any help offered.

The cooling fan is malfunctioning or the blades are loaded with dust. It's quite a common problem here. You could try blowing it out with some canned air. If that doesn't work, there is no fix other than to get it swapped out for another by them. Taking it to your local Xfinity store to be swapped out for another would be the fastest option, or ship it back for free via UPS and have them ship you another one. You can also choose to pay for a UPS pick up at https://www.ups.com/us/en/business-solutions/pickup-dropoff-options/ups-on-call-pickup.pag e or by calling 1-800-PICK-UPS.

Hello, Thank you for helping me. I find Xfinity online customer service cumbersome. So, I managed to find their phone number and they're shipping me a new gateway. Hopefully, that will resolve the problem. I'll let you know if it doesn't. Thanks again for your help, EG.

I am also having the same problem and swapping out the modem did not work. The new modem has the same problem! The noise is very bothersome. It sounds like the leaf blower down the street on cleanup day. Also with a new modem it's is a pain to restart all technology in the household. The modem we used to have did not make this noise. Is there a solution?

@charlottewils I don't think so. The new modem they shipped me also whines like crazy so I figure it's a feature not a bug. 😏  I stuffed the thing behind a closed door in the TV cabinet so I can't hear it as well during the day. I unplug it before bed so I can sleep. This is the only workaround I know of.
