Gateway Upgrade

Hi,

I am being offered a "free" gateway upgrade from my current (XB7) to a new modem (no model given). Two questions being (1) will the Xfinity WIFI extender PODs, that I just purchased 2 months ago work with this new modem and (2) how is this new modem better than what I already have?

user_BDRxrspni You would be getting the XB8 which does work with pods like the XB7, and included the 6GHz band which provides closer to 1 gig speeds over wifi than the 5 GZ band you currently have. It also still has the 2.4 and 5.0 bands as well. You are just adding a 3rd option for devices that can use it.

I do not know about the XB7, but the internet is full of issues regarding band steering with the XB8. Predominate issue is failure to recognize and stay connected to 2.4 GHz devices. I do have an XB8 but use it in BRIDGE mode, mostly because of the poor WiFi coverage but also a concern of using the many 2.4GHz legacy IOT devices on my network.

justsam, If it is any help, I have this set up with the XB8 and two extender pods. I have never had any issues, and it works great. If you are having issues, we can take a look and see what can be done to get things working better for you.
