Gigabit x2 Upload Speed Issue

I just updated my plan to gigabit x2 from gigabit.  My download speeds increased from 1400 to 2200 but my upload speed has not moved.  It has stayed at 40mb.  I am currently using a Netgear Nighthawk CAX80 6.0gbps router.  My issue seems similar to this one https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/gigabit-x2-upload-speed-issues/65a4115020d30143e1b33c11

What can I do to increase my upload speeds?

... upload speed ... 40mb ... Netgear Nighthawk CAX80 ...

The CAX80 is not compatible with the new higher upload speeds. Only a few retail devices are. See the "Next Gen" list at the top of the "All Compatible Devices" link near the bottom of https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices (at the moment it points to https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2024.09.18%20Full%20List%20of%20Compatible%20Devices.pdf, but this changes from time to time).

Also see:

For faster upload you need one of Comcast's newer rental gateways (XB6, XB7, XB8) or one of the few retail devices shown in the "Next Gen Speed Tier" group with an upload speed rating in the "All Compatible Devices" PDF:

  • Hitron: CODA or CODA56
  • Netgear: CM2500, CM3000, or CBR750
  • ARRIS/Surfboard: G20, G34, G36, G54, or S34
  • Ubiquiti: UCI

The Reddit link lists the approved devices (although that list is out of date) as well as other requirements for faster upload speeds.

Realize that although Comcast calls some devices "Compatible" and some "Recommended", for all but a few devices those designations only mean "compatible/recommended for use with their Internet service", and not necessarily approved for the new upload speeds.

Comcast could make all of this much simpler and clearer, but they have chosen not to do so.

Had same problem with Arris S33.  The upload speed isn’t supported on my modem until Jan/Feb - guessing your modem is the same.  Only Comcast modem can do full upload speed at this point (since plan is so new)

@bwd5107, thank you for your post! As @BruceW mentioned, your modem is not currently approved for our Enhanced Speeds. You would need to purchase a new modem, wait for the CAX80 to get approved (if submitted by Netgear and passes testing), or rent our Gateway. You can rent ours while waiting for the list to get updated as well.

Thanks for all the help everybody.  I'm going to get a Gateway for now and hopefully at some point the the CAX80 is approved for the enhanced speeds.  Will post after getting the gateway on what speeds I am getting.

@bwd5107  I think Jan/Feb 2025 is when "Next Gen" Modems on Comcasts approved list will >fully< support x2.  They do great with download speed 2.5Gpbs, but upload speed is still throttled.  If upload speed is not a concern, then you can go with these types of modems.
