Have Netgear CM2050v Modem Issues Been Resolved?

Hello Everyone,

I'm considering buying my own modem. One of the only ones on the approved list that support Xfinity Voice is the Netgear CM2050v. I've read a lot about a firmware upgrade from Xfinity causing upload performance issues. Does anyone know if the issues with the Netgear firmware have been resolved?

Does anyone have suggestions for alternatives that support next gen speeds?

They rolled back to an older firmware version which prevents the CM2050v from working with their next-gen speeds. Specifically the upload speed. This was done to resolve stability issues. Currently you won't be able to get anything more than 40Mbps of upload speed. There aren't currently any 3rd party modems with voice capability that are compatible with next-gen speeds. The only option is to rent the Xfinity xFi gateway and that will come with built-in wifi that can't be disabled.

Thanks for your reply. Most of the feedback I've read has been a few months old, but it seems like they haven't really made any progress on the Netgear modem issue. I'm also considering getting rid of my "land" line and just getting internet/cable. My equipment options should open up in that case. Perhaps the Motorola options will be better at this time.

The issue is not resolved as far as I know.  My CM2050V still has the old firmware and continues to get below advertised speeds on upload.  I do not believe Comcast is motivated to fix this as they send weekly emails trying to get me to rent their stuff.  I got [Edited: Language] buying this modem when it was on the compatibility list, only to have it removed!

Completely agree. I’m in the same situation. Purchased the modem like last September. Enjoyed the upgraded speeds for about a month and a half, then they rolled back the firmware. Almost a year later now, and no resolution. Stinks

Thank you for reaching out to us @mike-d2! Due to technical issues encountered when it was approved, the CM2050V was removed from the list of eligible devices to receive our enhanced upload speeds.

Today, the Arris G20, G34, 36, G54, S34, Hitron Technologies CODA, CODA56 , Netgear CBR750, CM3000, CM2500, and the Ubiquiti UCI are compatible customer owned and managed devices approved to receive the enhanced speeds. Our engineers are actively working to add more devices to the list.

Thanks for all the replies. .@XfinityAldrik I can confirm that the Netgear CM2050v modem still appears on the Approved list as of the writing of this reply. When I filtered the list of modems with the voice capability, the CM2050v was, if fact, the ONLY one on the Next Gen list.

I suppose I will have to give up my "land line" if I want my own modem to save on the monthly rental costs.

@vikenk I recommend checking the link: https://assets.xfinity.com/assets/dotcom/projects/cix-4997_compatible-devices/2024.09.18%20Full%20List%20of%20Compatible%20Devices.pdf for Next Gen Speed Tier compatible devices. I am not seeing Netgear CM2050v listed. The following is on the list as of today:

Hitron Technologies

CODA
CODA56

Netgear
CM2500
CM3000
CBR750

ARRIS / Surfboard
G20
G34
G36
G54
S34

Ubiquiti
UCI

Did you need assistance with changing your package on the account as you have mentioned removing a landline?
