How do I keep upnp on my gateway always on?

It seems to turn off in recent months after never having done that previously. I have seen messages about changing the advertisement period but no clue as to what to change it to.

user_yazi5m, Thanks so much for reaching out to Xfinity Support. Here is what I found on the UpNP:
Here's how you can keep UPnP enabled:
1. Access your router/gateway's web interface:
Log in to your router or gateway's web-based interface (usually by typing your router's IP address in a web browser).
The IP address is often found on a sticker on the router or in your router's documentation.
You'll typically need your router's username and password, which are also often found on the router's sticker.

2. Locate UPnP settings:
Look for a section related to "UPnP," "Universal Plug and Play," or similar terms.
The location of these settings may vary depending on your router's make and model.
Some routers have separate sections for "Device Discovery" or "Advanced Networking" where UPnP settings can be found.

3. Enable UPnP:
If UPnP is disabled, enable it by checking a box, selecting an option, or toggling a switch.

You may also find settings related to UPnP's advertisement period (how often the router broadcasts UPnP information) and Time To Live (how far the information is broadcasted).

Adjust these settings as needed, but be aware that shorter advertisement periods can increase network traffic.

4. Save your changes:
Make sure to save your changes after enabling UPnP and adjusting any related settings.

I have done all of the above (except changing advertisement period and Time to Live) many times. After power failures UPnP is disabled and has to be reset but it also seems to need to be reset much more often than that maybe every few days. If for some reason advertisement period or Time to Live needs to be changed, I have no idea what to change them to that would fix this issue.

user_yazi5m Hmmm, okay. Thank you for the update. I would recommend updating your Advertisement Period. What is it set at right now?

user_yazi5m, You could change the time if you'd like and see if it makes a difference. It can be modified in the Admin Tool after accessing the device's settings. It is advisable to set it according to your network needs, ensuring that devices can discover each other effectively while maintaining network performance. Remember to click "Save" after making any adjustments.
