How should a personal router connecting to Xfinity Gateway be set up?

I have an Xfinity gateway set up at home, but the signal isn't great in my room. I bought a TP-Link router to connect my TV (wired) and computer (wired) and to improve the wireless signal for my phone. What settings should I adjust on the Gateway and router to achieve the best speed and performance?

Just put the gateway into bridge mode so that it acts only as a straight cable modem and you don't have an undesirable "double NAT" condition on your home network (you can Google "double NAT" for info about its potential pitfalls).
