I have an Arris S33 but upload is still 40 Mbps

Subject sort of says it all.  I'm getting about 1Gbps down but only 40 Mbps upload. The S33 is on your list of supported modems. My internal network is 1Gbps so I'm not expecting to get the 2Gbps download yet.

What gives?

BTW: I note someone else had this exact issue posted here. unfortunately, unlike most forums, the question was taken and presumably solved, offline. So I've no idea how it was solved.

Thanks,

Pete

The S33 is not compatible with their new Next Gen / mid-split /enhanced upload speeds. These are the only third-party / retail purchased devices that are currently compatible;

As are their XB6, XB7, and XB8 rented gateway devices.

PdMagic Hello! Please utilize the information from our amazing Expert @EG you'll need to upgrade your modem if you intend on receiving the faster upload speeds based on the approved modems for Next Gen Speeds. As the Expert mentioned, you can always rent a modem from us directly if you choose to take that route. You can pick up a modem at your nearest Xfinity Store, or we can arrange to ship one out to you. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

I may have finally identified where my misunderstanding came from.  Last year at this time the S33 was on the Comcast list for 2Gbps service so I bought one.  I connected it and it didn't get the desired speeds.  A tech came out and measured the 2Gbps download on his device, but my real interest was the increased upload speed.  I assumed that if my device was getting 2Gbps down, then it must be set up for the 400Mbps up.  But I never saw that. Additional research yesterday has informed me that the S33 *does* support 2Gbps down, but not the 400Gbps up! Guess the S33 was an ill-advised purchase.  Anyone want to buy one? ;-) Not sure of my next steps now.

Decision to make now. Is it worth buying another Xfinity recommended modem and hope that one works? In August we're supposed to have fiber provided through T-Mobile in our area. They are advertising 2Gbps up and down. They also don't require annual negotiations with Xfinity to keep/get a lower price - like haggling with a used car salesman in a plaid suit. I think I'll just coast a couple more months and then switch to fiber. Looks like a company named Intrepid is installing the infrastructure and other companies like T-Mobile can light the fiber and sell it to us. It's about time for Xfinity to have some competition around here. I think I'll switch just to get out of this toxic relationship with Xfinity.
