Incorrect geolocation for my IP

My IP used to report my location as Claremont, NH which is close to my true location in Grantham, NH. But recently it now reports as Connecticut. This impacts blackouts from the NY region.

You likely recently received a new / different WAN (public) IP address assignment to your connection from their DHCP server / IP address pool, and the rDNS / geolocation data that is associated with it is now incorrect for you as it previously belonged to someone else who lived in that other area.

Comcast shuffles blocks of IP addresses around the country all the time. And after doing local plant maintenance / upgrades. ISP's don't correct this. A third-party service does. Unfortunately, this is typically a back-burner thing to get corrected. The only thing that you can do is to report it. You can try this;

https://support.google.com/websearch/contact/ip/

https://ipinfo.io/corrections

https://www.whatismyip.com/ip-address-geolocation-incorrect/

https://ipregistry.co/data-corrections

Wait for the geolocation provider to approve your request. If your request is approved, the amount of time it takes to see the correction varies by provider. The average is two weeks to a month or more.

You can also try this;

If you are using a router that has a MAC address cloning feature, you can clone a different MAC address into it. This will force a change of your Comcast assigned WAN / public IP address. No guarantees that the new address won't also have incorrect geo-data as it may be from the same block of IP's. YMMV.

And you could also try using a VPN service but it's a crapshoot on what IP / endpoint geolocation will be presented to their servers.

@XfinityBradM I've been beating my head against a wall with the same problem. I have Xfinity service in Poughquag NY, but somewhere around a year ago suddenly I've had my geolocation changed to either put me in CT or MA. I did my due diligence and updated all the geolocation services i could, which did fix my problem, this is until i lost power and my modem, my XB7 got assigned a new dynamic IP address that put me back in CT or MA depending on which geolocation service you query.. This is absolutely ridiculous. I'm paying for service at two different locations, the NY one, and another in FL. All i want is a static IP address so after i go on a quest submitting corrections to the plethora of geolocation services, and they update their servers, I stay in NY and am not teleported back to CT or MA again, and it doesn't seem like asking too much for the money i spend each month for two different service addresses.

The only way to get assigned a static public/WAN IP address from them is to subscribe to their Business Class Service.

@XfinityBradM which makes  no difference when my modem gets assigned a new dynamic ip by comcasts CMS and puts me back in CT or MA anyway. I already  submitted corrections to those services, which temporarily fixed the problem until the above happened.

user_lcj37b I completely understand how frustrating this has been, especially after all the effort you’ve already put in. On residential Xfinity service, IP addresses are dynamic, and we’re not able to assign a static IP or control how third‑party geolocation services map them. The only way to maintain a fixed IP is with Comcast Business service, as mentioned by EG. Otherwise, updating the major geolocation providers is the best available option right now. I know that’s not ideal, and I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.
