Internet Drops while attempting to launch Steam Games

Hello,

Wifi drops completely when attempting to launch certain steam games, troubleshooting ends with an error that the DHCP server isn't responding. Tried updating DNS for IPv4 and v6 to Google Public's from auto set, neither work. Everything else works all the time and computer games work when connecting to hotspot rather than wifi. Internet browser works while game is closed but as soon as its launched it closes everything. Seems to be specific to wifi connection overall, but after troubleshooting on my own for a couple hours can't seem to figure out why its happening. Ethernet also unfortunately isn't an option with room set up. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi there, user_cdphxn! Thanks for being a part of our community! We are happy to help further with your internet connection! We appreciate the steps you tried already to resolve this and will get to the root cause of this.

Is this issue only affecting your PC?

Are you using your own modem and router or a Xfinity Gateway?

Have you noticed if the issue is specific to IPv4 or IPv6 or does it seem to affect both?

Thank you for getting back to me, yes just my PC. I'm using an xfinity gateway, and the issue was happening under both v4 and v6 as far as I can tell (tried disabling one than the other to force it to use the DNS I was entering)

Great rundown, user_cdphxn! You have tried some good steps to try and get to the bottom of this already, Have you also tried to release and renew the IP address

user_cdphxn you will want to make sure you PC is set to obtain an IP address and DNS server address automatically. If the issue still happens I would focus on the wireless connection type. You can log into your modem and change the wireless connection type, or you can also troubleshoot this quickly by connecting that PC directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable to see if the issue happens when you bypass wireless.
