Internet upload speed not as high as advertised

I purchased a 300 Mbps down and 100 Mbps up plan from Xfinity. The Xfinity speed test is showing 351.8 Mbps down and 21.5 Mbps up.

I have an SB6190 modem, which is rated for 1000 Mbps down and 240 Mbps up. I ran the speed test on a laptop hard-wired to the modem with an ethernet cable. There is no router in between right now. There are no other devices connected over coax in my residence.

Why is the upload speed only 21.5 Mbps when it should be 100 Mbps? Thanks

... SB6190 modem, which is rated for 1000 Mbps down and 240 Mbps up ...

Comcast/Xfinity rates the SB6190 for use with plan download speeds "up to 859 Mbps", and does not include it with the few devices in the "Next Gen Speed Tier" group compatible with the new higher upload speeds. See:

Realize that although Comcast calls some devices "Compatible" and some "Recommended", for all but a few devices those designations only mean "compatible/recommended for use with their Internet service", and not necessarily approved for the new upload speeds.

You need one of Comcast's newer rental gateways (XB6, XB7, XB8) or one of the few retail devices shown in the "Next Gen Speed Tier" group with an upload speed rating in the "All Compatible Devices" PDF.  Also see the Reddit link, which lists the approved devices as well as other requirements for faster upload speeds.

Comcast/Xfinity could make all of this much simpler and clearer, but they have chosen not to do so.

That all makes sense. They really should make this clearer, because it was not at all apparent when signing up. Thanks for your help.

Hey there, user_69zf5e, thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums regarding your upload speeds. We are so excited for you to enjoy those new speeds! Here is a list of the devices that are compatible with the Next Gen speeds, https://www.xfinity.com/support/devices/. There is currently a limited list however we are continuing to add additional modems.

I definitely want you to enjoy those new speeds. Would you be interested in upgrading your equipment to a Xfinity modem rental? Our Xfinity modems come with 24/7 support, and you never have to worry about compatibility in your equipment.

I'll keep my current modem and stick with the slower speed.
