Is residential speed plan increase done remotely or does it require a technician visiting the residence?

Now that I have the Arris G54 gateway activated, setup, and working to take advantage of the faster 100mbs upload speed offered in my service area, I have started thinking about possibly changing my plan to a faster download speed.  I am currently on the 500mbs download plan and am looking at maybe the 800mbs or the 1 gig download plan.  This would be residential not business.

The question I have about this is if I do increase my speed to either of the faster download plans, is that something Xfinity can do remotely or does it require a service technician coming out to the residence and making a change out at the pole where the coaxial cable from the house connects to the Xfinity connection on their cable?

What's the big secret?  Xfinity keeps sending me messages that they will increase my speed for free...BUT...they can only do it if a technician comes to your house to do it.  They have a link you can click to make an appointment, but they never say what they need to do when they get to your house.

@user_gd8ayd​ That's odd. I can't imagine it would take more than them upgrading your speeds in their system and then a simple restart of the device on your end.

user_gd8ayd - As part of our ongoing network upgrades, we're increasing Xfinity Internet upload speeds for customers across our footprint. From California to New Jersey, from New York to Florida, and everywhere else in between--eligible customers in certain areas will receive up to 10 times their current upload speeds at no additional cost.

Eligibility
Customers will not receive faster upload speeds if they:

Do not reside in a Enhanced Speed market
Have Internet Essentials/Internet Essentials Plus or Prepaid Internet
Customer owned and managed (COAM) modems that are not the approved list at this time
Have an XB2 or XB3 Xfinity Gateway
Are on a Legacy speed tier* (examples include Blast! Pro+, Performance Select, etc. -- some exclusions apply)
*Some Legacy speed tiers are eligible and will be broken down per division
