Issue using more than 1 ethernet port.

I have been using ethernet on my PC for 6 months with no issues. Recently, I built my partner a new PC and when I plugged it into ethernet, both of our PC's randomly lose connection for a couple seconds at the same time and I can't figure out why. I've been troubleshooting for about a day to no avail, any ideas?
