Military Websites

In the past, military websites [.mil (i.e: tricare.mil or Yellow ribbon.mil)] have worked on my home Internet (Xfinity gateway). I was out of the country for about a year and came back in August. I am unable to access any of the .mil websites while on Xfinity.

I am still able to access these sites on my phone when NOT connected to Xfinity wifi.

With two different laptops, I have tried both Chrome and Edge, clearing cache & history, checking firewalls, temporarily disabling Xfinity's advanced protection, flushing the DNS, and even reporting to Xfinity's Advanced Security team.

The websites are allegedly not "blocked," but somewhere in the system the websites are not coming through when on Xfinity. I read elsewhere on this forum (back in December 2024) that this issue can't up for another and the solution came after many calls.

Is there an easier way to allow these websites- at least at home?

((For the record, I have also removed InstallRoot and reinstalled it. I have tried updating the Department of Defence certificates via InstallRoot, but the system will not successfully update while on Xfinity)).

P.S.

Others having issues can try using the Army Virtual Desktop. It is tedious, but at least allowed me to access .mil sites to sign post deployment forms

((Multitasking at home- forgot include the original ticket response. Below is the email I received. It probably doesn't make a difference, but it sounds like there is no intentional blocking of .mil sites))

Your website unblocking request review

We completed the review of ticket [Edited: "Personal Information"] and confirmed that there is no Advanced Security block related to the reported website. Please contact the website owner if access issues persist.

Thanks,

The Service Policy Assurance Team

Hello @user_TL88 we would be happy to look into this with you. If you don't mind my asking, what error specifically do you see when attempting to visit these specific sights? (Page cannot be displayed, 404 Not Found, etc.)

@XfinityJoe

Similar to CasoMarine's, this is what shows up on my phone. It seems like it times out.

I am experiencing the SAME thing. No access to any .mil site. I can use phone hotspot, but connection is slow... and well...I pay for internet for a reason. Please help. Virtual desktop does NOT work for me.

Same for me. And when trying to submit a request to comcast to review the urls, copying and pasting the urls into Comcast’s system, they are not accepted.  Tried many times today (Sept. 23).

@XfinityJohnG - any help would be appreciated. I often access .mil websites, so it would be great to actually be able to do it at home

@XfinityMartyR - I am going to assume they are different from the Service Policy Assurance Team, so no? I will have to try a phone call then.

@user_TL88

As a temporary workaround, you could try your luck using a VPN. Good luck !

@EG - I have tried Express VPN and came up with a different error (empty response?):

Using VPN isn't working.

Additionally, why would I need to use A VPN when this is a service I pay for and should work without issue? I can login from my neighbors house, but not mine....

UPDATE:

Took a while settling into civilian life and with again. I finally had the time to sit down and call the Customer Security Assurance. The lady checked a few different military (.military) sites for me and told me that they are all down and that it is beyond their control. I'm not the guy to keep pushing customer service, especially considering that I don't know how else to ask since it has been well over a month of not being able to access these sites.

But for the record, my phone does just fine when NOT connected to Xfinity in reaching places like YellowRibbon.mil

Just a pain in the neck because my family has post deployment stuff to fill out on Yellow Ribbon and the phone is not an easy way to do it.

100% it's not the military sites down it's Xfinity blocking them.

I have the same experience.

I changed the DNS to Google Public DNS in Chrome and the .mil sites loaded without an issue.  Received no help/guidance from Xfinity Support.

@user_TL88 Could you please send our team a direct message with your full name and full address? To send a direct message:

1. In the top right corner, you'll see a little chat icon near the bell icon. Click the direct message icon

2. Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

3. In the 'To' line, type "Xfinity Support" there. A drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list (an "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line)

4. Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

5. Press Enter to send it. An official employee, such as myself or whoever is first available, will respond. Thanks!
